Java has so many deficiencies in its design that so many frameworks are invented to cover its flaws. Just give a real Optional type at a language level. It’s clearly possible in other JVM languages.

I am mostly curious about the Mesos layer itself. Mesos is dead. So you need in-house expertise to patch it without being able to leverage community knowledge. Does Twitter retain enough people to manage Mesos?

Docker and Vagrant are the some of the prime examples. They are clearly useful but people still don't want to pay.

This is the first time I heard of Kite and I frequent HN a lot. Maybe they should have spent more budgets on marketing. That said, I agree that no one wants to pay for developer productivity. The only exceptions are IDE and databases.

I don’t think I built any regrettable things. Except for that one time I built something pretty good and he didn’t want to pay me for it. Big regret. Shouldn’t have finished that job.

heh, you think scientists automatically understand computing nature? You’ll be the janitor cleaning up their 20k LoC, one file Python with zero abstraction. If this is already a thing at a FAANG, it will be worse at a pure science shop.

Once upon a time, I sped up Tornado Web Framework by quite a bit. I used to write one or two popular Go libraries. There are (or were?) big McRouter + Memcache clusters behind New Relic. I prototyped that and deployed to prod in ~3 weeks. I

How do you build this? The code structure looks different than a normal Rust project.

If there is 1 feature that all of these tools neglected, it's speed. They are way too slow loading huge Javascript libraries unnecessarily. By the way, what you are building looked almost exactly like Wrike.

If you have decent skills and reputation, the manager or team lead may bring you over to the new company (if such opportunity is there). But the company itself couldn't care less about anyone working there.

Everyone told me that Javascript ecosystem is maturing and slowing down. Everyone told me to just consider either React or Vue. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have a different take, why not just send RPC functions with all of their parameters? Then the payload is guaranteed to be small but still able to handle complex operations.

I keep wishing that someone will make something like this (since my frontend skill is not up there). CSS certainly can get close to the metal via the GPU API. On another note, folks should stop using any time series chart library if it'

The most distasteful part about Gitea incorporating is that the overwhelming majority of the code is written by Joe Chen (unknwon) the creator of Gogs (which is where Gitea is forked from). Is Joe part of the incorporated company? Folks who

If you don’t want to think too hard, just funnel the tags information into a search engine like Elastic Search. It already handles stemming, stop words, aliases, etc.
