Encryptable, portable home directories is one of the goals of systemd. I can’t wait until one day when I just ssh in and it’s all there

I’ve actually found myself using these to get me much more proficient in the Shell overall. fd in particular is so much easier to use I find myself doing things like: fd .log$ -x mv {} {.}.bak (Rename *.log to *.bak) Can I do that

Same here—though for the same reason I always thought "VSCode" was a strange name since it doesn't have any of those interfaces.

yeah agreed. If you have trouble understanding how it could be better just install fish and try it for 5 minutes and you'll see what we mean. There are attempts to emulate some of it in zsh, but it's still not as good as what fish

I’m more surprised that there is an ssh.com. And that it looks like it was put together with a bad corporate WordPress template.

What are you talking about? It specifically talks about it and even provides 2 quotes with contradicting points of view: “Alex Tourk, spokesman for sf.citi, a tech business group, said San Francisco needs to consider changes to its business

I know. I’m talking about iOS 13 beta 1. If you think this is what a bad OS looks like, you should try that.

May I be Goldilocks? I’ve used basically every iOS beta. Beta 1 is always AWFUL. Then it gets better and better. iOS 13 is probably the worst, but only incrementally so. It’s hardly worth having a fuss.

You were awarded them 1-4 years ago though. That's when the value mattered. To add to that, it's not like when you join a low-performing company you can just leave because you think you can get better value somewhere else. The cos

First of all, I get your point. Still, this is an awful analogy. What about 1-car collisions? And what if I hit a parked car?

no—this is something that likely shouldn't ever even be committed into a codebase. It's just something you throw in while testing to check why the performance of something is acting up. The default is really important for somethin

I think it’s ok, it’s just a debug statement that I think outputs to stderr. You should never be parsing it.

If you watch just one video on Go, even if you don’t plan to ever write Go and just want to learn about it. Make it this one: https://blog.golang.org/concurrency-is-not-parallelism It explains in detail how this is possible

The idea (portable homes) that I could ssh into a system and have my home directory come with me (with a personal vim config, shell, gitconfig, etc) on any newer Linux machine is very exciting

I use bazel at work heavily in a very large project. I’ve always worked with scripting languages so I’m much less familiar with build systems. I’m not sure I get what makes bazel so good. It seems pretty simple to me. You have a bunch of di

Fair enough, the website defaults to 2 powerwalls for some reason. I wish I could get solar. My family and I will likely just be sitting around in the dark for a couple days.

I mean—I live in the Oakland Hills myself. Nobody out here would be able to get solar. Our roofs/land is covered in trees. Also at 15k for a powerwall, it'd make more sense just to get a hotel for these blackouts.

I really wonder what the increased risk is of people using gas generators instead. I suppose from PG&E's perspective this isn't their liability but it still concerns me.

Open source is better for libraries than applications. I’m happy to pay for software written with open source libraries that works well so I can support developers like myself.

That’s not true. Apple prevents unsigned binaries from being executed at all.
