I thought this was going to be a technical review that goes into detail about the rendering pipeline or something, this is just a "how does this arbitrary video game perform with different settings" kind of review, not really HN f

That assumes that you are using a specific version of a specific Linux distribution that happens to ship specific versions of Python that you are currently targeting. That's a big assumption. uv solves this.

It's useful when dealing with high traffic networked services, the little saves here and there have compounding effects over time and save you a lot of bandwidth.

> Just refactor SerenityOS, take its DE and make it a Wayland compositor Funnily enough SerenityOS's WindowServer is actually more usable than Wayland, so that would be a downgrade.

What? That's exactly what I use stars for - to bookmark repositories so I can go through things I've found interesting at a later date, or to keep being updated on their releases.

On a related note, one of the features in TempleOS was images embedded in source code along with an image editor within the code editor: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/196Dv3gFslU

Most low-level languages support this, references in C++, pointers in C, ref keyword in C# and Dlang, and so on. It's mostly higher-level languages that do not support such things because it's in the VM semantics that dictate how

That's just how it works when your backend is a hybrid software that utilizes a low-level compiled programming language and a high-level language that runs in its own VM. You can use the latter for gameplay features, and can hotfix on

For major patches/backend changes that require recompiling - yes, for gameplay tweaks/hotfixes - no, hot reloading is preferable where possible.

Right, but my point about long time maintainability still stands, the person in the lead of the Rust project in the kernel already threw in the towel: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20240828211117.9422-1-wedsonaf@...

Exactly my point, if that cannot be done as a third party project, then shoehorning Rust into Linux and expecting unpaid third party volunteers to actually maintain it makes no sense. Unless a big corp steps up to fund such efforts, it'

I've always wondered why not just fork Linux and add Rust there then keep it in sync with mainline and maintain it long time to demonstrate that it's a viable strategy and there's enough volunteers willing to actually spend t

Manually copy-pasting source trees around sounds like such an outdated idea from decades ago on how to approach dependency management in a modern programming language. Not to mention that you then have to hook them up to the build system th
