Pretty sure the parent meant testing the pipelines themselves, end to end. The tooling around pipelines is awful. A single typo in some variable’s name in a later stage can take minutes to catch. The feedback cycles are very long (cloud mac

Be careful about trying to recreate campus experience with YouTube videos at home. If a lecture is basic and you could indeed replace it with a quick video, look for better, more challenging or unique lectures/degrees/curricula. T

> I don't fear MITM on a local only HTTPS server > I trust my services and devices That is exactly the point. You trust your local, possibly dumb aka unmanaged switch. It's a little piece of silicone with no funny business

Dumb question, but how is HTTP important on local, switched networks? I have a single switch and don’t fear local MitM. I was under the impression basic HTTP is mostly fine then. Other parties, even on that same switch, won’t be able to

Try a quick and dirty local reverse proxy like Caddy. It provides self-signed localhost TLS, trusted on the OS level (if you agree) such that the browser is none the wiser.

You can’t cancel out voice chatter very well at all using (active) noise cancelling technology. If you prefer office noise over screaming babies, that’s one thing. They aren’t mutually exclusive however. You’ll just end up with both. I do

I’ve used Pocket for a while, before giving up (poor search, cloud based). Their mobile apps are great though. For now, I have resorted to Joplin (a note taking app) and its web clipper. It ticks all your boxes, except maybe “independent o

I kind of agree, use the terminal a lot and am satisfied whenever I don’t need to look up a command. However, the point of it isn’t knowing as much of it by heart as possible. That is really misguided. I use tldr a lot, and it often covers

Not the parent, but I have been hosting a Vaultwarden instance on the public internet for about two years now. After learning about certificate transparency logs, I moved the app from a raw subdomain behind a secret URL path. Think “hello.d

In physics, dimensionality makes sense. How would one handle money? Can it be represented the same way? A new dimension, next to length, time etc? It would allow to express money per time, eg dollars per second, for example.

At that point, why not have dedicated types and get rid of primitive ones? It shifts all that work to the compiler, whose job it is to excel at this kind of stuff (adding cents to penny types does the right thing automatically etc).

This is too simple. One can burn out either way: building automation most, if not all, days or keeping it manual. Burnout is too multi-facetted.

x^2 means x squared, orphaning the XOR operator. Rune is for crypto, so math comes first. Isn't XOR used very heavily in crypto? (As is exponentiation of course)

That discussion reminds me of Intel Optane. The current distinction between hard disks and RAM isn’t a necessity dictated by some law of nature. Yet it’s the box most people think within (for good reason).
