That was my observation as well (didn't read the 1st ed.). The middle third of the book is very dense and a lot of concepts will have to be kept in mind as the CPU is built up from plain transistors. It was all new to me, so challengin

I understand async/await in Python to be entirely single-threaded. So is, for example, C#'s implementation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/csharp/programming-... ("The async and await

I believe in talent to a limited degree. It governs the floor, ceiling and learning curve's slope. Kind of like the parameters to a sigmoid function. Magnus Carlsen's very first chess match was likely much better than most other p

I had looked into protocols the other day but found no advantages over ABCs. In fact, failing to implement an ABC's interface is a 'compile-time' error, which is impossible to miss. Using protocols and mypy would be a soft-fa

I mean, the query is “timer $period”. It’s correct in its syntax, a period’s a period. It’s not asking for “timer TIMMY; DROP TABLES”. That’s incorrect input.

That doesn’t make too much sense. An intercepted password reset email requires access to the email account. That’s a whole different scenario. If both the email and DO account are behind strong, unique passwords, that won’t happen from a me

If you perhaps happen to know or have a pointer: how would that work in C#? A field not initialised will be null, and if it’s non-nullable… what’s its value going to be?

I guess both JavaScript and Python reinvented themselves through gradual typing. It makes Python quite a different language and JavaScript literally a different language. My most recent small (1k LoC) Python project is “fully typed” and the

If you don't mind, would you explain this more? I don't understand the implications; VB does sound "worse" than Visual C++ for such a job, from an outsider perspective?

Git follows this model as well, calling it porcelain and plumbing (the internals). Arguably, there’s a third layer in actual GUIs wrapping the porcelain (and sometimes plumbing).

Python puts source code in a directory with the package's name. That's why the source code is really under `repo_root/package/`, not under `repo_root/` as you seem to imply. It's just that it's not called

Probably one of the top reasons. I listened to a podcast the other day on Spotify on my phone. Last time I did podcasts was maybe 10 years ago. I was properly confused when an ad block appeared. I had forgotten what ads even were like, and

Python 3.8 and its walrus operator is 2.5 years old, it's not bleeding edge, at least not anymore. That being said, I'm worried about the language in that complexity increases through the introduction of new language features with
