Sure! A good one is battery storage. When you install a battery in a building in order to manage load more effectively, how do you know when you should charge and discharge the battery? There's a ton of complexities going all the way f

Hmmm, I'm sure the tech is great as well as the scientists and engineering perfecting it. However, I consider this kind of tech important in a post-energy transition world and probably a bad idea to pursue now. Converting CO2 to hydroc

This will likely get flagged as duplicate to the highly contentious previous thread[1], but I hope it doesn't since the other thread was a mess. It seems that in any climate change thread, many if not most of the comments get downvoted

Howdy rayiner, our paths have crossed several times on HN regarding mass surveillance and privacy, and I always mostly respected your points of view, even if different from my own. However, I'm really worried about this reply on climat

I used to also be depressed about climate change, but then I got a job in the clean energy sector. Waking up every day and getting paid to fight climate change feels really good. It has really turned my depression into hope. I'd like t

I used to work at a fitness tech startup, but then when it didn't work out (heh), I took a step back and wondered what industry I wanted to be a part of. I wondered if a software engineer could help contribute to fighting climate chang

Will multi-account containers be included? The most useful feature on Firefox Desktop is the ability to isolate different browsing sessions using containers (e.g. Facebook-only, HN-only).

Firefox for Android lets you install extensions. I can't imagine using a mobile browser without an ad-blocker anymore. Saves so much battery life and stops your phone from getting hot from all the cpu usage in ads.

Correct, but plastics and other non-burned uses only accounts for <10% of oil and gas. So you'd have to 10x the number of petrochemical products to make up for the decrease in burned product. Plastics are a pretty mature industry, s

It's wrong to assume that those of us fighting climate change are anti-nuclear. The only reason I didn't include nuclear in my parent comment is because it isn't currently competitive with either clean or dirty energy sources

Within the past few years, solar+batteries is starting to win bids against new natural gas generation in many common peak-related situations (not all yet, but increasingly so). The expectation is that solar+storage will win most peak-relat
