The hiding of reviews has made Yelp virtually useless. I like the identity verification idea. I implemented the Equifax version and it's very simple to code. I believe it cost us in the neighborhood of $1/verification. That may outweigh the

Maybe you could go further upstream? Consider integrating with POS systems, merchant account providers, or payment gateways.

No idea why this was downvoted. Original post is asking for a service just like this. Thanks for sharing, Rich and welcome to HN!

This guy is a jerk. Last week he called my wife a white bitch because she didn't buy any candy. I respect the hustle but not the man.

Spot on. It's about deception and freezing a defender for a split second. Players at this level are very well matched physically and very few players can simply out run or overpower someone. You need to deceive defenders to get yourself tha

Throw Siri into the mix and it could be really cool. While watching a baseball game, just ask Siri questions about stats. "Siri, what is Albert Pujols' lifetime batting average with two outs and the bases loaded?"

There seems to be a belief that dressing nice means wearing a suit but that's not so. You can look very nice and still be very comfortable. Simply wear clothes that fit well and ditch the hoodie and you're most of the way there.

The difference is you could be identified when you arrive versus when you are checking out. Your experience within the store would change. For example, if you spend a lot of money then you might be greeted with VIP welcome wagon. If you don

I'm a father and yesterday was my daughter's first day of school. I don't think my job is to protect her at all costs. My job is to prepare her to be a healthy, happy, and responsible adult. Protecting her is part of that, but so is letting

I haven't used Node, but my understanding is it is event-driven and excels at asynchronous requests. So in your example, Node could asynchronously communicate with the services and raise events when each is complete. Obviously hitting each

Interesting thought, but I don't agree. Maybe I'm selfish but never once have I thought about the author when I'm buying a book. Nor have I heard or read anything from anyone saying "You know what, I'm not going to get that book at the lib

I have hundreds of books which fill multiple bookshelves (I've even read most of them) like some sort of trophy case for my intelligence. There are only a handful I have picked up more than once (except to move), and the only ones I pick up

It says something about our culture that we don't even consider going to the library to get a book. I think we are so demanding and particular, that the thought of not getting what we want, when we want, is too much to bear and we would rat

A few people have mentioned how difficult it will be to get people to upgrade to iOS 5 in order to use iMessage. Yes, a lot of people never sync and a few don't even connect to WiFi, but it's important to remember Apple is in this for the l

I love your vision of New York, but it's dangerous to use New York as a model. The population density of New York makes it unique (at least in the US).

Shockingly naive article. "If he sold one million books at $100 each he would make so much more! What is he thinking?" Uh, maybe no one would buy his books if he charged more? Perhaps he's an intelligent man and has experimented with dif

That last bit reminds me of a Malcolm Gladwell story. I think it was Korea Air that had a terrible safety record and a consultant was brought in to figure it out. Turns out Korean culture strongly discourages questioning your superiors, e

Does anyone now of a good resource for theater reviews? Some quick Googling didn't pull anything up for me. It would be interesting to see a listing of which theaters use which projectors as well as sound system quality.

I'm in Manhattan (so a rather large city) and use Time Warner which isn't listed for my address. My anecdotal evidence aside, this really cost $200 million? I'm pretty cynical, but there must be more to it.

Actually, if a merchant is "on reserve" and having their funds held, then the processor is required to keep the money in a non-interest bearing account. They don't make money on it. Reserves are to cover the processor's ass on chargebacks
