I must say that I love it this way. I see a headline that seems interesting, and there's a discussion, I read the skeptic first comment before all else, because it usually states quite clearly what the author of that headline is trying to

I like that. And in breadth first search, one could use a filter on a saw wave to have the breadth of the frequency spectrum manipulated by the search.

Not that I wouldn't like to be as optimistic, too, but Nature does seem to have made enough use of unreliably folding proteins to have come up with BSE, Parkinson's disease, and some others < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protein_folding

Protein folding is suspected to be an NP-complete problem < http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/abs/10.1089/cmb.1998.5.27 >, so it seems to me that having reason to believe it will someday be solved equals having reason to believe tha

However, humans - male, female, and variant - often lust for the anatomical features of other humans, and the associated emotions often trump any rationality. And there is danger in not noticing this. And a surprising number of humans, he

After checking out that PUA stuff, it appears to me that the goals you call "questionable" are not grounded in rationality at all - it's all about not meeting the emotional needs of the women involved, and they mostly smell like men whose e

Looking at the headline, the theme here is "dirty tricks". Evil intent. And while I agree that you can use dirty tricks to make people not do something they'd better do, I fail to see how the examples given by the GP speak of evil intent.

Oh but these are examples for making people not do stuff (like not flag, vote, or even come back to the site). I don't feel like that's evil at all.

The point is that, when dealing with people who's sense-of-self is pathologically affected, I suggest you steer away from the "victim" concept, because it is ideologically loaded. Whether depressive or not, people often want to think that

No, they are not victims - they are patients. This "victims/non-victims" meme is just wrong, and it's toxic. Please don't spread it.

My experience is that different personalities stay stressed in different ways. E.g., I very much tend to do the former, and have repeatedly picked partners who tended to do the latter. It sure makes for dysfunctional relationships.
