As others have mentioned, it might be in the interest of browser vendors to get you to perform more web searches. I don't know what browser you use, but personally I feel Firefox at least does a slightly better job than the competition

On that note, I noticed recently that Google search result links (on Firefox?) get rewritten. That is, you see the actual page URL when you hover over the link, but it's changed to their own redirect URL as soon as you click it. I'
