I don't buy that. Why is Flash good enough for Hulu's content providers, but not Netflix's?

For starters, it's a poor choice for streaming technology on the Mac. Can we expect to see HTML5 video support for the Mac anytime soon? It pains me that Netflix HD streams on my iPad look better than on my 1080p projector hooked up to a Ma

It was announced a few months ago, but I only recently found out about Tonika (via wmf's blog): http://5ttt.org/ It's not directly comparable to Diaspora or GNU Social, but to me it's much more interesting than either: a distributed, secu

If you'll allow me to pimp my ISP for a moment, depending on where you live in the Bay Area, there's reason to celebrate, not gripe. I don't know of a finer DSL provider in the U.S. than Sonic.net, a local ISP based in the North Bay, provid

Hmm, the freedom to hack the phone without jumping through hoops was, for me, one of the major attractions of Android over the iPhone. An effective vendor OS lock-in makes Android a lot less appealing to me, especially when the usability of

I got an Evo at I/O and I'm new to Android. Is there any way to install a stock Google Android distribution on this phone? So far my impression is that the UI is awful, but I'm not sure how much of it is due to "HTC Sense" and how much is j

Wow, fantastic essay, both for its technical and historical content. I worked at ILM during the digital restoration of the original trilogy, and most of the author's account is news to me.

Many (most?) new consumer drives have support for ERC (the standard term for what WD calls "TLER"), which is part of the ATA-8 standard. See here for the spec (ERC is described in section 8.3.4): http://www.t13.org/Documents/UploadedDocume

While we're on the subject, does anyone here have experience using Clojure with GAE? I'm considering that configuration for a useful-but-not-mission-critical application, and wondering if Clojure on GAE is robust enough for that.

Is Butler being maintained? Is there a bug tracker? It doesn't look like there's been a release since 2008, but I can't tell because I can't find a dated changelog for the project.

Don't forget Russ Cox, who I believe stuck with Plan 9 longer than either Rob or Ken. I'm excited to see CSP in Go. I've been advocating its use for concurrency since I learned about Plan 9's channels, but most people paid no attention.
