Can you picture other things? A long time ago I read that if you are awakened and want to fall back asleep, you should picture yourself turning around, going through a door to your basement stairway and descending the steps towards the dark

Might be worth using farside for the link, which I found out about today on HN. https://farside.link/https://twitter.com/nealagarwal/status/...

I'm no expert, but it seems like raw SQL is supported. From the docs: "It also exposes app.Dao().DB() builder that allows executing various SQL statements (including raw queries)."

I've been paying for about a year. Every time I'm reminded how much I'm paying, I think it sounds like too much. But every time I sit at a new computer or accidentally use the default Google search on my phone's home scr

I'm in the same boat. The most reliable solution I've found is a mifi 8800L, which is cheap, works with resellers of Verizon like US Mobile, and tethers over USB, but is annoying since it's larger than a USB stick and require

Yes, he's talking about a study that showed that car seat requirements decrease birth rates because most cars cannot fit more than two car seats in them at one time. The hypothesis is that this causes families to avoid having a third c

For me, it's pretty good in chrome on a Pixel 6. Absolutely terrible on Firefox on the same phone.

One opposing force to this eventuality is the huge and still-growing RV/camper/boat industry, which has begun shipping some really good, house-sized DC electric appliances lately. It seems like these worlds might one day converge.

I think about this every single time I read or hear the word ether. "It means an invisible transfer medium. What were they thinking!?"

In the context of this metaphor, I would describe ADHD as the inability to get into the zone despite desperately wanting to, and the inability to get out of the zone despite desperately trying to. Lots of zone time, very little aimed at the

My only serious gripe with OnlyOffice is that when opening a CSV, you have to choose an encoding and delimiter, and there is no way to set a default. You must click twice, in two places, every single time you open a CSV.

Love kagi. The first time I got the "your payment was successful" notification I felt like I'd never get that much value out of it. But now, a few months later, I feel like I could never go back.

I submit that electricity adheres approximately as closely to the colloquial "water in pipes" model as actual water in pipes does. Which is to say not very well beyond a certain level of detail. But in neither case is there a more

Serious question: when some app sends you somewhere after a click/tap on iOS, but doesn't leave you the breadcrumb back link in the upper left corner, how do you go back? Is there no shortcut or gesture? Drives me crazy I can'

Small nitpick: 16 300W solar panels is not ~$100k, it's more like $3,000.

Just give it time. Remember, before Twitter had algorithms, there were third-party platforms like favstar providing algorithmic virality as a service. I'm sure we'll eventually see similar tools for mastodon, followed by those too

Consistency has to be a tough problem to solve for a service like this, since randomness in the choice of each token is part of the magic sauce that makes LLMs work.

This is so impressive. Reminds me of when I (a copywriter) would sit next to a great designer, saying "try this" and "what about that" and watching my nebulous feelings about the thing turn into reality.

I was going to suggest this, too. TrueNAS Scale is the quickest and most "it just works" version of bare metal --> docker containers with a web-based UI that I have experienced.
