This kind of mindset is the entire reason I wrote "The Sad State of Web Development" Needless over engineering for displaying text on a page.

Does that even matter in the world of Docker?

What do you mean? Babel 5 and before included everything out of the box. You just told it the stage you wanted and your done.

I thought Babel 6 was some kind of satire on Javascript build tools. I even hit him up on Twitter. In fact Sebastian was serious. https://twitter.com/drewhamlett/status/681245325282164737

Hey man if you sign up for Cloudflare you can get SSL for free. Plus a lot of other goodies. If you need help with setting up a Digital Ocean box with Phusion Passenger, Capistrano, Ruby, let me know.

JSF with Java EE. That was over engineered. This Redux flux capicator, isomorphic, 4 Terabyte NPM install, 45 Babel plugin, flow, dumb component pure functional, immutable js, virtual dom. Now that's over engineered. I built more com

The funny thing is, a lot of websites I visit that use client side frameworks don't make optimistic/eager updates to the UI. You click a button, it hits the server does the update, then updates the button state. Therefore they&#

Funny thing is, I haven't had a single customer asking for platform agnostic backend services. I'll make sure I ask them about that though. I can do all those things pretty easily with partial replacement. By a lot of state I me

Not really. I've done pretty well in my current app with Turbolinks partial replacements. You can do more fine grain changes such as appends. You can tell Turbolinks which part of the page you want to update. So if you have a counte

That's the way I worked at my last job with Python. I filed for brain fuckery bankruptcy after trying to get pyenv and pyenv virtualevnwrapper set up. You can't say this is Python 3 code or Python 2 code. That's completely f

You can take a fresh install of MacOSX and do anything with Ruby. Only issue is you need to install some gems using sudo. Same thing with using system python. You don't need rbenv by any means. In fact our designer has no problem

Well Ruby is too. If something worked on 1.9 it works on 2.3.

I'm not sure you understand. You can have as many versions of a gem on your system as you want. You just can't have multiple Ruby versions of those gems easily without something like rbenv.

Got into React around November of last year. Did a semi large project with Reflux and React. The popular Flux library before Redux. Not sure what's popular now. I hated every minute of doing React. It started off great, but quickl

Yes people have been killed by RC helicopters. A buddy of mine who flew at a club almost died when a Trex 500 hit him in the head. You won't hear about that stuff on the news though because it's not a "drone". Drones

I just can't get into Phabricator. Babel switched to it for issues. I find it hard finding anything. I kind of wish they would mirror the issues on to Github. When I see Phabricator I just don't see anything. I just see a blob

Nope, you are a 100% correct. That's why I made sure I praised/thanked the author/contributors for their work on the project and suggested to them how fix the issue. Thanks for the library.

Web development is in truly a sad state. Having worked on a larger Node project I'll never do it again. The only thing you can do is npm shrinkwrap and never update your dependencies ever again. If you update you are f'ed. It&

Used to fly RC gliders regularly at 2000 feet in the 90's with my dad. Great times, but never near airports. Of course you couldn't just go on Amazon and buy an RTF easy to fly machine at that time. You had to go to a hobby stor

In the backend, a new language for a new service would likely be ok, if it's pretty small. If you chose any of the major frameworks for your application you'll be good. Django, Rails, Java EE, Spring, Play Framework, Meteor. The

They just need to make these drones kit only and harder to fly. I've been flying RC with my dad since the early 90s. You would spend a month building these gas powered planes or helis. Only way to learn to fly was through other peopl
