I use evil-mode and that has alleviated any complaints I had about the editing experience. But then again, the modal nature of vi is how I think about editing text.

Looks cool when you're livestreaming? Like if you're just showing your face cam and it's in the background.

Getting workflows re-established, any integrations you had developed or otherwise come to depend on may not work, you will probably lose history, etc. Plus, it will just take a long time to get everyone on board and using the replacement sy

For myself, I find I'm more productive in the last half of the week. But my employer (and team) tend to front-load the week with meetings, so by Wednesday my schedule is clear enough to be heads-down and get stuff done.

I think Lobsters[0] is the only other forum to maintain a high-level of discourse like HN, but it is invite-only (and programming/comp-sci focused). I know some people have started other servers running Lobsters's source[1] that a

It's going to be interesting to see how this develops. Will they include their eventual cellular chip on their SoC? Will they then include that in Apple Silicon Macs (highly doubt this one, as nice as a cellular-enabled MacBook would b

I don't think he's wrong to question it, but people have taken that questioning and lack of answering to be a failing of Tolkien and LOTR when in reality that's just not the scope of the book. It's a mythical battle of g

Eh, I get his coming down on criticisms this time. It doesn't make sense to criticize the hardware for software issues. I'm not going copy a binary compiled for x86 over to a RPi and complain about ARM chips being inadequate. If t

Sometimes I'm not even sure they're re-inventing, just adding a vender-lock-in layer on top of the service and making it run on Lambda so they can advertise it as "web-scale".

It has made me think more clearly about ownership than other languages have. I work primarily in GC'ed languages (Go), so I never really had to worry about it. But now, I find myself writing better code everywhere because I now think a

I love that companies think this is the answer to the discoverability problem of voice commands. It's either repeating yourself ad nauseam to get the response you want or this crap.

The learning curve is very, very steep. Worth it, in my opinion. I think, though, you can become productive in Rust after a week or two. Go is great because you can grok it after a couple of days - you'll have most of the main concepts

I wouldn't use Authy as a second auth factor. Like, yeah it's not Google, but it's a glorified SMS code. Unfortunately I don't know of any good replacements that are viable on Linux.

Currently that's where their Rust plugin runs. I could see them breaking it out into its own editor like they have with GoLand.

My employer recently decided to move from using self-hosted Jenkins servers living behind a VPN to GitHub actions. I wonder how much vulnerabilities like this were weighed against the reduced maintenance burden.

I know. I'm loathe to give up my Mac specifically because of OmniGroup and their products. I'm hoping org-mode can become a replacement.

Honestly? I'd go with a Jetson dev kit. A couple hundred bucks and a whole lot of performance. Plus you get CUDA.

I'm 80% certain that my next computer is going to be either a desktop or a ThinkPad X1 running Arch. A lot of what I do doesn't require a Mac, and frankly I enjoy Linux more.

Yeah, there are some posts out there. I'll have to find them and edit them in. Yes, in fact - we've seen clusters still running when two of the NUCs have disappeared from the cluster.

Very true - gopls has come a long way. I should note I use it every day in lsp-mode when I'm writing Go. Hiccups are much less common now than, say, a year ago.

It's not bad for Go either. The only issue is that gopls is still considered alpha, so it's not the most stable thing out there, but that's not Emacs's problem.
