So one effect I've seen over the last decade of working: if it never needs to change, and no one is adding features, then no one works on it. If no one works on it, and people quit / change teams / etc, eventually the team t

Good question. I think something to keep in mind, the US hasn't fought a war on the home front since 1865. The Spanish American war, WWI and WWII, Vietnam, Korea, the Gulf war, Afghanistan, Iraq - none of these were fought on American

Perhaps then there should be a subscription API, so Apple could make the nice "see all your subscriptions in one place" UI? Or maybe banks could better offer this as part of online banking for credit cards. Not sure the right pla

Yes. And most server hardware is already at least ECC ram. You may still want some light radiation shielding to prevent the worst, maybe some heavier shielding for solar flares. But beyond that, simple error correction can be baked into

Almost every js API for making requests is asynchronous so they do return after the request is made. The exception though is synchronous XHR calls, but I'm not sure if those are still supported ... Anyhow I think it doesn't matte

I don't believe this is true? As others have pointed out, preflight options requests only happen for non simple requests. Cors response headers are still required to read a cross domain response, but that is still a huge window for a

Maybe some use cases want to know if there was overflow? In which case having more space for carry bits to accumulate makes it easy to give an accurate answer

There's not just "result with carry" and "result without carry" but rather one variant of that per word of the input ... Which likely isn't that bad to code up.

That last one should largely be solved by 1) TLS 2) make your cookie __Secure- or __Host- - which then require the secure attribute. If DNS is wrong, it should then point to a server without the proper TLS cert and your cookie wouldn't

I appreciate the sentiment but I don't see that catching on. I think a variant of bricked makes sense as it basically means you can't use the device until you can figure out how to fix it. Which the "muddied" analogy d

My guess is they are thinking of it more as a replacement for dram or disk. I didn't read far enough to learn if it failed after all those cycles or just "we stopped testing it". Either way it sounds promising.

That's a good argument against bad and exploitative ads. Not all ads are necessarily bad. Eg have you ever seen an ad for an event in your town? Maybe a play or a concert you'd want to see. Those to me feel more like "public
