You don’t need to maintain a sky high salary during the length of a 30 year mortgage though. You can refinance every 3-5 years to reduce your monthly payment as you pay down the principal. Your mortgage payment can go down quite significant

Prior to docker some common patterns were to rsync the files up to each server, or compress the files to .tar or .zip on a build server, rsync it to the servers and then uncompress into your desired directory.

Your boss told you exactly what you need to do: take more ownership :) You already mentioned you own one part of the codebase, why not expand on that and find another (hopefully critical) part of the codebase and become an expert/owner

Lots of good replies already, but I would also consider a senior engineer someone who puts the team first. They admit mistakes early, look for ways to improve not only the codebase but the software development lifecycle and their teammates

Besides experience mentioned in the other replies, I'd recommend reading open source code. Search for open source projects related to the programming language of your choice. Other ways to find good projects to read are to look through
