My point, poorly made, was that I can run it myself for “free” without caring about tokens at all. Tokens are an artificial construct.

That’s fair. My thought was, when there is an interesting new technology, it usually takes time to figure out how to monetize it. Figuring out how to monetize LLMs took no time at all.

I am so sincerely amused that “we” figured out how to monetize LLMs from the jump using tokens. It isn’t tech for techs sake, it’s a money grab. Reminds me of paying to send a text message or buying minutes for a phone plan. Purely rent-see

Are we talking about the verb or an ideal? Either you work or you don’t.

Enh, to me it’s not, either you work or you don’t.

There is without question value to LLMs, I absolutely agree. Trying to make them more than they are is the issue I have. Let them be great at crunching words, I’m all about that. Pretending that OpenAI is worth billions of dollars is a joke

I for see that when people only employ AI for programming, it quickly hits the point where they train on their own (usually wrong) code and it spirals into an implosion. When kids stop learning to code for real, who writes GCC v38? This who

The sentence works without those two words. “You either work for a living or you don’t.” Now what?

Ah I was, off the cuff, going for core/more utils, those are great too. Ran out of ideas.

In my small-minded opinion, llms are the better version of code-completion. Search and time-savings on an accelerated course. They can’t write me a safety-critical video player meeting the spec with full test coverage using a proprietary si

Way back like 25 years ago in what we call high school in the US, my statistics teacher tried her damndest to make final exams fair. I said next to someone I had a huge crush on, and offered to take their exam for them. I needed a ‘c’ to ac

Rights don’t exist if you’re not a citizen. Isn’t that the whole crux of the debate? Glossing over that part, and as a former lawyer you should know better, means everything.

I can see that you’re now realizing, I didn’t have a say in the constraints. I also hate said constraints. Hand I was dealt. Ubuntu is a cancer on the gnu/linux/open source community.

Really? How much more can it cost to host their LTS and non LTS repos open at the same time? C’mon, that’s such a weak argument I think you know it.

I didn’t have a say in the matter of OS choice, it doesn’t matter how well-publicized Ubuntu’s stance is, it’s wrong. I don’t care if it’s not an LTS, keep the fucking repos open and advertise you’re using an insecure OS. Let me, the user,

I cannot update the OS per the contract. It’s Ubuntu’s problem because they decide they’re smarter than their users and nuke their repos. Fuck all of that.

I’d rather use redhat than Ubuntu. I was handed a machine the other week with Ubuntu 23.10 on it, OS supplied from a vendor with extensive customization. Apt was dead. Fuck that. At least RH doesn’t kill their repos.
