I run Opensuse on daily basis for more than 3 years, and no it definitely doesn't require "week-end tinkering". like zero tinkering.

not the OP but: it's fairly obvious that those office workers force themselves, so you can't say "as much as they please", otherwise they d stop 3 liters earlier. So yes, you will be judged. It looks pretty dumb.

"Rewrite the hot path in C/C++" is also a landmine because how inefficient the boundary crossing is. so you really need "dispatch as much as possible at once" instead of continuously calling the native code

ah I think I understand your confusion. The proto package allows conversion between the binary messages and their json equivalent. So you can still use the proto objects in your code , only to send out json when required

i think even if 3rd party API expects json, you could still map their models to proto ; i haven't encountered this case tho might still be challenging to convince proto to output what you want exactly

i have to confess , i use Protobuffs for everything. They convert to pure python (a la dataclass), to json strings and to binary strings, so i literally shove it everywhere : network, logic, disk. BUT when doing heavy computation (c++, not

maybe if performance is really an issue, protobufs shouldn't be used ? there is also flatbuffers, capnp and purely C++ serializers: zpp, yas... but protobufs are definitely convenient !

very often I think the paranoid security restrictions at my $job are dumb, but then an article like this appears Remarkable how often the weakest link in a security chain is the human, not the system
