I agree with you. If the point of "prep" for an interview is memorizing and reviewing stuff you haven't used in years, and will likely never use while you're employed at the place where you are interviewing, then it's largely meaningless.

Bad QA is worse than no QA. In my 15 year career, I've seen two decent QA analysts, and they both had extensive technical backgrounds.

It depends. If MS is offering a complete SDK, then it's a whole nother ball of wax... unless you're on a Mac or linux distro. IANAL, but I also assume there will be legal issues with distributing a commercial kinect app without the expres

Considering I work with one of the most incompetent QA engineers I've ever had the displeasure of encountering, I couldn't agree more. This person wastes my time, and the organization's time, and has not actually increased the quality of s

What's the point of catastrophic insurance if they can drop you when you need it? It seems like you're paying for nothing.

I pay about $550/mo for the 5 of us, but that's just because my employer pays 2/3s of the cost.

I googled a bit, but wasn't able to find any corroborating evidence. Please post it here when/if you find it. In any case, it will be interesting to compare the APIs when MS releases theirs.

I am guessing it will be more like the OpenNI drivers, since PrimeSense is already a MSFT partner.

I am hardly surprised that the ten year return rate is as miserable as it is. Ten years ago, in 2000, we were in the midst of the tech bubble, and many companies got funding that they should not have. It's like looking at the ten year ret

We like to think of the field of science as a meritocracy, but it is fraught with politics, trendiness, and other human pitfalls. I have known FAR more post-docs who burnt out than succeeded, and not because they were lazy or unintelligent

I think her more important point is that to be a "successful," scientist, you have to be a domineering, workaholic, self-promoter with connections. Perhaps there are other ways to do science that don't push out brilliant people who want br

The xbox/zune/netflix combo is really amazing. And the kinect is poised to create a different revolution in a different space. Tablets are not the whole future of computing, not by a long shot.
