I'd like to hear an opinion from a developmental psychologist about what something like this could do to infants. Basic physical intuition -- things fall when you drop them, things persist when they leave your line of sight, etc. -- is lea

This points to a release that came out a month ago. I suspect this is some sort of spam.

I don't see how you're getting this formula, but if it spends 13/27 on GC after a 2x GC speedup, then it was 26/40 before, not 26/27.

The one day timer for /noobs should start ticking when they make their first submission, not when they create their account. Otherwise spammers can just wait a day before submitting anything.

4chan is like the social equivalent of fuzz testing. If you want to see how your app holds up against weird unexpected input, you feed it /dev/urandom. If you want to see how it holds up against weird unexpected people, you feed it /b/.

When I run into ignorance about the hacker/cracker distinction and don't feel like going into the whole schpiel, I find that the phrase "relax; I work for the good guys" is sufficient to calm people down.

Utility functions are nonlinear with decreasing slope . When you don't have enough money to buy everything you want, you buy the most important things first. A 50% chance of gaining 2 x dollars is a worse deal than a 100% chance of gain

That's because US citizens seeking VC who haven't moved to Boston or San Jose usually have no good excuse not to; for VCs, it's an easy way to filter out undedicated founders. Foreigners who want to move there but can't get a visa have a m

I want an ant farm that comes with bottles of ant pheremones. Then I'd use them to build a Rube Goldberg machine out of ants and make them calculate pi or something. Edit: somebody should totally apply to YC with this idea. You could even

I think ARRA is a giant boondoggle, but this expenditure seems perfectly inkeeping with its intended purpose. Microsoft is the dominant economic force in the area, and this is an investment to allow it to conduct commerce more efficiently.

Still the same fallacy. We could put up the same CCTV cameras and get at least as good an outcome if the problem weren't as bad to begin with.

You said that we'd be better off if the problem became worse so that we'd be more motivated to solve it. How can that be read as other than advocating (in the short term) more spam? The point of the Broken Window parable is that even in t

It seems like a really bad idea to me. Learning from primary sources more-or-less forces you to learn things in the order they were discovered, which in turn requires you to repeat and then correct every mistake that was made along the way
