For me, I screw around building something, but then “settle in” when I write hardcore unit tests that shore up my knowledge and reinforce my understanding of the language or framework. Until I do that, and I mean truly do that, I am prone t

That would indeed be unethical. But not passing along a referral code and subdividing profits from there.

I’m not clear where ethics fits in here. Was that expressly limited? They’re offering you an affiliate link to drive conversions - they’ve externalized sales to you - what (more) permission do you need from them?

Great find. Just put my name in. If you’re also in Palo Alto, consider registering and maybe we can form a team.

Cool to see this (I’d somehow missed the early access link until last night). Your storage strategy makes sense - building from first principles. To be honest, I figured you’d not done that though, and I imagine this makes portability a b

I regularly see code of the form `if(x == false)` as the author has a distrust of `if(!x)`. I guess the author just distrusts smaller things, leaving me to distrust the author’s larger things.

Kinda like being ‘cool’. It’s not really formulaic, but instead subject to its environment.

I can’t find a vite solution for NodeJS which is disappointing. If anyone has figured out a way to ship the minimal amount of code from a NodeJS monorepo (ideally with web and server code, but generally decoupled) I’d enjoy seeing the solut

I recommend the autobiographical, category defining book on street work - Pimp: The Story of My Life by Iceberg Slim. [0] It’s dystopian and might be a hard read for some of you, but it might rectify a lot of the idealistic visions of what

Was hoping to see, and would like to see, one of these on Functional Programming. It’s been an immensely enjoyable experience getting into it, but with a non trivial startup cost. My team has generally adopted it (at least to some degree, a

Replace “crypto” with “GPL” and the comment still makes sense. And, at the same time, still makes no sense.

i often times wonder if it's still "too early" to use an uncommon TLD. i guess Notion's success is evidence .com's may be overrated. (sure, an alternate reading is that they're successful despite the TLD).

My career has been spent in onboarding. Filling all the roles: software engineering, managing a team of customer success agents and support agents, and generally everything post-sales. On one hand, this is where the art of business occurs -

The most curious part of these tools (for me) is how they handle cursor pagination. Unfortunately, there are two closed out issues, seemingly with no resolution, that seem to indicate cursor-based pagination doesn't work (with Relay) a

As an aside, how is the SSC community? Rewarding like HN? I accommodate irreverence well, but I don’t have a field guide for what this community might actually be about. Any tips from long time participants?

I’ve got a deploy running on Fly.io, but I didn’t go with the buildpack option; instead I’m pushing a locally built docker image (buildpacks don’t support pnpm). One big miss, though, is you’ll still need a database and s3, so I’m not sure
