I'm having trouble finding a link, but there have been user experience studies involving heat maps, etc. showing that any unnecessary visual elements distract the user. I'm with you that I like the idea of having a strong visual indicator t

"It's a magic box. A box where you push a simple button to get a category of information you are interested in..." Actually, there would be no box and what you want would just be there.

I'm somewhat new to HN, but I don't like the new look. The existing one is much easier on the eyes. A good UI should not introduce new colors or visual elements that are unnecessary. Zebra coloring of rows has its place, but not here. Don't

Virtual machine can give the wrong connotation to a Java developer though. It isn't just running compiled classes like in Java. It has to do ongoing runtime compilation.

Has anyone done a shootout recently like this?: http://programmingzen.com/2007/12/03/the-great-ruby-shootout... I'd heard that JRuby was fastest these days, so it would be great to see some numbers and side-by-side features comparisons.

Neat. Still, I think there is a much greater gap between punch cards and today and all of the technology lost to history than is being recognized in this article. We aren't saying "You're too young and stupid," we're saying "Holy cow, I did

No idea what the startup is or what you are trying to do, so no idea what you would need in a CTO or why you'd need one before you have anything else. I worked for a startup where the president/founder of the company's friend created a sing

Do what you said you can't. Get code into Github, etc. Focus on one project that you're interested in, and do it well. As people have stated recently, go to bed earlier, wake up earlier so you work on it first thing for a few hours each day
