That would have been a problem with every new distribution, including RHEL and Debian when they were brand new. In reality, your SAN should be able to accommodate a generic Linux kernel with any userland you can containerize.

I've just begun looking into and playing with CoreOS. Basically, it's a minimal Linux image with Docker, service discovery using the `etcd` daemon they've written in Go, and several interesting properties. The most interestin

Simple answer: you don't. Longer answer: It depends. Do you want to use yum or apt-get to install programs? If you like CentOS, create a CentOS container with Docker and begin installing programs using yum! Ubuntu? Spool up an Ubuntu c

You just described the actual draw of CoreOS. CoreOS is just Linux . Instead of going the Xen route you just described, it can capitalize on being just Linux by supporting everything Linux already supports . At this point, you can view

Yes, the Getting Started guide is great. There is also Dave's book[1] and many talks done by José and Yurii[2]. [1]: http://pragprog.com/book/elixir/programming-elixir [2]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m32CGvzixrQ

1) Do you also think of e.g. Scala as the CoffeeScript of Java? Scala : Java :: Elixir : Erlang 2) Yes, interoperability is there and, just like you can use Scala libraries from Java, you just need the Elixir runtime in your path. 3) My fav

https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/elixir-la... This was José Valim's rationale on the mailing list. Once you understand what's involved, f.() begins to look like a pretty good compromise.

As a professional Erlang developer who now develops with Elixir, I need to stop this right here. This is NOT just about syntax. Elixir simply is not just a pretty face for Erlang, but enables metaprogramming that is simply NOT possible in E

Could this allow for developing a toy kernel in Rust as long as you define those few libc functions (maybe even with e.g. musl[1])? [1]: http://www.musl-libc.org/

For anybody interested, Elixir was accepted into Google Summer of Code 2013 as part of the BEAM Community of projects: http://beamcommunity.github.io/ If you're a student, check out our project ideas here: https://github.com/beamcommunit

This is very cool, but I wonder why people are already inventing different indentation styles for Rust already. Guys, we have the canonical way all Rust code should look from the Rust compiler itself. Let's not all start using disparate

The great thing about Ember is that it is NOT all all-or-nothing proposition. We have several apps that don't use Ember Data or the router, several that don't use one of the two, and some that use both.

This is complete FUD. First of all, I'm not familiar with Merb but didn't it merge with Rails? Regarding Rails.app, how is it languishing? Yehuda has given status updates[1] and code is on Github right now[2]. SproutCore continues to be dev

I'm reminded of a talk by Rich Hickey in which he recounts his experiences trying to initially make Java more immutable. He concluded that while it was certainly possible, it was less than ideal and that a language such as Clojure facilitat

I can sympathize, I found it's simplicity nice at first. But it quickly wears on you as your codebase grows and you have to refactor. You can find seasoned Erlangers complaining about it's peculiarity often, whether they'll admit it's a pro

In five months of working with Elixir, I can only think of one issue I've had that's related to importing Erlang records with functions as a default value. Even then, the issue is being thought about[1] and there's already several workaro
