I'd venture that none of the brands mentioned in this comparison are used by as many people as Facebook. Everybody you know uses Facebook. How many people do you know that drive a Ford? 1 of 10?

He said that they had 2 engineers in 2010, 3 engineers in 2011, and 5 engineers 2012, but only 2.5 backend engineers. I'm surprised that the number of engineers is so low, considering that they had 15 employees. Maybe the figures above don'

I lived without home Internet for about a year in 2002 when I lived on a boat. I eventually got a wireless 56k connection. I spent time at coffee shops and wardriving for Internet. I don't recommend it.

I've done a significant amount of development with Twilio, and I can say that I do see a need for a service like this. Developing conversations with Twilio is a pain, and requires a bank of phone numbers. A service like this can pool phone
