A placebo is not necessary in this phase (phase 0). The most important thing is that the vaccine is safe and that there is a dose dependent relationship. The placebo will only be necessary in later trial stages. Now it's mostly to ass

I don't think they implemented the `no ads before 8PM on tv` yet. I'm actually surprised about how open they are about advertising costs per second for each block on the npo1 channel [1]. [1] https://www.ster.nl/me

Perhaps this is partly driven by COVID. A hotel is a great isolation facility. Having one for essential staff would be a massive benefit if you need them close by at short notice.

Based on the rules it cannot drop _more_ than 20% in a day :-) There are examples of it happening in other countries though. Zimbabwe and Argentina come to mind for some crazy inflation and stock numbers.

If you make things more expensive, less people will buy that thing. It will reduce emissions in the UK by reducing the airtraffic through the UK. Exactly the intended consequence.

France developed their own matrix protocol based network called tchap. Great idea for a nation that wants to stay independent in an increasingly american/chinese tech dependent world.

All you need to do is look at the health care costs per citizen of other developed countries to understand that the US is paying way too much in their current healthcare system. I'm aware that the US's healthcare system is unique

Those are usually airport fees and such, I don't know where you get these numbers, but the airline pays the airport for the use of the terminal, baggage handling, air traffic control, etc. This is different from tax, as without it you

Last weekend, I took the night train from Briancon to Paris, step in at ~21:00, step out at 07:00 the next morning. My first time in a night train, pretty surreal but pleasant experience. I had to take a semi connecting train from Paris to

Testing somebody without symptoms is not accurate. Additionally, the current tests are very expensive and remove capacity for other individuals with symptoms.

It's called peace of mind. Some people worry about their privacy being violated. Without the sim, there is less tracking, so less to worry about.

Which is very normal state of affairs for research organizations. They try to reach as much of their employees / stakeholders as possible. You'd be surprised how often the work issued email address is not read.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the signal servers are hosted on google cloud, using encrypted traffic to obfuscate the point of exit for a signal user. This is why in the past, governments were unable to block signal without bl

Interesting to see that their test results are often very good (most of the NIST tests), but in certain other tests (Diehard Overlapping sums) there is p value inflation. I wonder where that comes from.
