What a bizarre argument. Have you implemented Common Lisp yourself? If not then you know nothing about Lisp then?

Can you give examples? I see a lot of hype but no actuals. Becoming super productive in any language requires a lot more skills than just learning the syntax and semantics of a language. So why do you think Lisp is different? It would hel

What a great read. The author is absolutely right. I always found it amusing that people will readily acknowledge musical/athletic/artistic talent but flat out refuse to acknowledge that some people are more talented at abstract t

I admire the strength, conviction, humility and technical skills you are constantly showing. Please keep doing what you are doing. Some people can’t handle a beautiful woman who is smart, skilled, and choose her own way in life. That’s thei

Yep. A friend of mine said that he used to work for a company where team A always multiplied their schedules by 3, and team B worked as fast as possible to deliver. The result was that management loved team A because they always delivered o

Nope Pascal was never a real competitor to C. I have programmed serious software using both languages and I would never pick Pascal over C.

No the demo went so badly for them that we never invited them back. I kinda felt sorry for them. They had no clue how uncompetitive they were compared with the tools we were already using. One of the two demo guys kept going on about how be

I worked on Banjo Kazooie and the claim that N-World was used for it is incorrect. We used Maya for all modelling. They did a demo to the BK team once and it went really badly for them. What they demoed to us was so far from being competiti

> Given Lisp's near-mythic status of productivity I have seen a lot of claims of this but no real evidence? And I know Lisp quite well (having implemented my own versions of Lisp for fun). If Lisp truly is way more productive than

A team of good developers will do good work using any process. A team of bad developers will do bad work no matter the process used. Which is why every year a new process or interpretation of a process is invented to this time finally s

Agree. There seems to be a lot more articles praising how awesome Lisp is than there is awesome code developed with Lisp.

Yep I do agree with what you are saying. Developers are making lots of decisions every day that will impact the quality of the software. So the better they are at understanding and emphasise the end user, the better the software will be. Ho

It seems like you haven’t quite got the concept of capitalism and how humans and markets actually work. If you give away your work for $0 then the value of your work is $0. Yes a tiny minority may want to pay more than that to make themselv

Interactive Theorem Provers are getting productive enough to be useful for real projects. The CompCert project was a real eye opener/motivator for people who want to develop proven correct software.

Speak for yourself buddy. I am 50+ and sharper than ever. Having a lot of deep experience makes it easy for experienced developers to do in a day what it takes younger unexperienced developers months to do. It’s especially fun when young se

I do exploratory programming all the time in C++ and Haskell. I know Lisp (scheme, Clojure) however I prefer typed languages. Types enable me to sketch out a whole application without writing any code. The types will tell me if the architec

Why do you want to build “cutting edge stuff”? Honest question. Is it to prove yourself to the world? Out of interest? I am asking because 99.9% of real problems that customers are happy to pay large $ for is not cutting edge. Cutting edge

My companies fired 2 PhD’s. They were super smart, understood all the leading research results etc. but had no clue how to turn theory into practice. Theory is not practice.
