Have been getting $20-50/mo for sharing 15TB. Probably won't be worth it for the average developer with insane salary here, but I'm not complaining!

About 15 meters of one USB 2.0, one displayport and one HDMI cable. Of course a 5V power supply for USB at the client end, soldered to the cheapest USB hub I could find. I never need more than the speed USB 2.0 provides anyway, and those US

I used paperless for a while but ended up just saving pdfs to directories instead. I can find what I need without fancy OCR features by organizing and naming files sensibly. And I am fairly certain this will still work in 40 years, while pa

Having a different vendor for the frontend software and the cloud storage part does arguably increase security. Let's say a national security agency wants access to your passwords. They can "easily" make LastPass send a custo

I will repeat for those not reading the article, because I think it is very important. Always buy genuine batteries (Samsung, Panasonic, etc.). Batteries from AliExpress and similar sites are almost guaranteed to be fake, even if advertised

On many platforms, showing female nipples is banned while showing male nipples is not. Probably not the issue here, though.

It's not just you. This comment claiming better performance than Google Maps is baffling to me. OSMand has been slow on every phone I've owned (OnePlus 2, Pixel 3a and Pixel 6a). Enabling OpenGL and restarting improves panning

I have purposely configured my laptop with a maximum cpu performance target of 30% when on battery. No more fan noise, much longer battery life, performance difference is barely noticable (except in tasks like gaming and video transcoding w

This is why I like hosting providers that totally ignore reports/DMCA. Even if you're not doing anything illegal, it's good to know your server won't get taken down randomly because of a false report.

Everything stored on encrypted ZFS. Backups are done using syncoid in rend-mode, so the remote gets the encrypted version. I make backups to a couple friends' servers who also use ZFS, and they make backups to me. The encryption key is

As I understand it, the cathode is where electrons "leave", the anode is where they "enter". In case of a battery, electrons leave the minus side. But for a device being powered, electrons enter the minus side.

Using more swap may make the system faster. It means there is more room for file-backed pages in RAM, to cache read and writes. A swappiness value should be chosen based on the system IO workload and swap device performance characteristics.

I'd argue it's not enough. If you're using ZFS, you may notice a corrupt file during a monthly scrub. If you're not using ZFS, you may only find out years into the future, when the backups are long gone. For accidental d

Simply direct all outbound DNS traffic to your own DNS server. You could do the same for your LAN by adding a port forward rule in your router (for LAN, not for WAN like you usually would to get incoming traffic around NAT)
