Intuition happens naturally and people are prone to inducting the wrong conclusions. Proofs provide a framework for rigorously analyzing drawn conclusions such that it can be used to build intuition in others. If math is about sharing the i

This would be a new publication with OpenAI's novel solution. Buckmaster and Alpöge did not arrive at the NS solution, they used an approach that also happened to be used in OpenAI's proof. > there’s absolutely no reason to d

Going back to the specific topic at hand, who claimed data as their own when it wasn't? I don't see the interpretation of OpenAI solving the unsolved problem as claiming data that isn't theirs. I also don't recall them m

I think that flow is an easy way to disable everything, so there isn’t a risk of forgetting to flip one thing back off after accidentally setting it on. I set my ChatGPT environment to allow model improvement for example but had to check my

The only way it would be able to tell you the ending is if it was somehow given more importance in pretraining, loaded into context, or represented in multiple sets of training samples. I have a blog that I make very LLM friendly and usuall

I don’t think your question is unfair*. They can check and so can Buckmaster. If he didn’t opt out, there’s a good chance his data was used for training. I believe this to be the case myself. What I’m more skeptical about is the purported

Except that’s not what happened. OpenAI offered to collaborate and put conditions on their offer. They aren’t threatening the removal of a coauthor for an independent work.

While I can sympathize with this perspective, I don’t think it’s right to call it driven by “ego.” Sometimes one just wants to go at a problem without being second guessed on approaches or led astray with suggestions by others.

It sounds like OpenAI is trying to appease the author when they don’t have to by allowing him to rewrite their proof. They probably don’t believe he deserves to, so him asking for a coauthor from Anthropic might overextend their grace in th

I'd like to caution against extending stories with too much of one's interpretation/imagination and insisting the extended version proves author intent of the original.

If you haven't gotten a refusal from AI yet to answer a question, I guess you haven't annoyed it enough. Claude very much threatens to stop conversing on re-hashed topics with repeated arguments within a thread lol.

Ironically, the same applies to AI. We seem to get demonstrably better results when speaking to models encouragingly [1]. It's a lot easier to re-establish goodwill when you can clear the memory and context of a program vs. a human tho

Yes, I think OP understands that. What he and many others in this thread are trying to understand is what makes this model useful.
