You know, I'm pretty old, and back in the day, the owner of the local record store knew my taste and introduced me to stuff he'd think I might like. And I created my own mixtapes with tracks from different albums and gave them to

It's actually not about buying but downloading. I regularly buy single tracks and downloading them one by one is very tedious: You have to click on "download", you get to a new site to download this single track, then you h

I love Bandcamp, but man do they need to improve their app and website. It's been pretty much stagnant for a long time and there's just so much potential. Handling of collections is just terrible. You cannot sort or group your col

Just follow the thread in the gcc mailing list. There are loads of questions now which need to be answered, just to name a few: - Can the steering committee make that decision? - Can the code be still easily(!) re-licensed to a possible GPL

This is a good example of how to not steer a FOSS project. Seriously, what was the steering committee thinking? I mean, I tend to agree with this decision, but do they honestly believe that just announcing such a big change without any publ

I can only violently agree with the author: koreader is incredible. When I look for ebook readers, running koreader is an absolute must. The nicest thing about it is how hackable it is, since most of it is written in Lua. When I got my Ko

The libs in the steam-runtime are often times very old. The newest compiler for building inside the runtime seems to be gcc 5. I understand the need for stability, but why isn't this stuff updated from time to time?

Heads up for anyone on a commercial license (this does not affect the LGPL-Version): Qt6 does not offer a perpetual license anymore, you need to switch to a subscription license. The catch is that you need a subscription license not onl

I agree. Another thing to consider is portability. You might have to port your software to obscure platforms with bad C++ compilers where compiler bugs are not uncommon at all, so it's better to stay clear of more advanced features. Al

Contrary to most people here, I don't think the author of Octotree has much to worry about. While there is a long list of contributors to the project, only 10 have contributed 10 lines of code or more. My understanding is that a change

To clarify: This is for the commercial usage of Qt6, the LGPL version of Qt6 will continue to exist, but you won't be able to buy a perpetual commercial license of Qt6, everything will move to the subscription model.
