Actions speak much louder than words here. If it quacks like a duck, it's probably not an accident that aid workers following all the proper procedures to make sure they don't get blown up, do get blown up.

Yeah, 100% agreed with this. My team is currently 1 day/week (Thursdays) in-office, and for both better and worse, there are conversations that happen which wouldn't otherwise. A lot of great things come out of those conversations

Yeah. There's a healthy middle ground between boxing yourself in and boxing yourself out. Don't write things before you need them, but if you can tweak an implementation slightly with knowledge of things you're thinking about

Interestingly, that used to be true, but in the past few years some regulations have gone into effect regarding sulfur emissions in cargo ships. I think that was probably a good thing in the long run, but there's some evidence that t

I mean, is that really true when the "we" is a group of 8 billion, about half of whom at any time can contribute to a build server?

Everyone has their own list of needs for a smartwatch though. Mine are always on display, steps and heartrate tracking, and notifications. I can't imagine ever caring about running any of the apps you listed on a watch, and I don'

But they only mentioned Chinese devs. I've had a few Chinese devs, but my coworkers have consistently been about 1/3 Indian.

Yep, which is one of the reasons why this discovery is so weird. The reason I mention cosmetics, is it means that it's at least in theory skin-safe for humans up to at least some threshold. The next questions would be: what's the

That isn't remotely what I was saying. You can die from drinking too much water, that doesn't mean you should avoid drinking water for fear of what it's doing to your insides.

The dose makes the poison though. Tartrazine is already in cosmetics, but that doesn't mean a ton of it is still safe.

I agree with this. The two banking apps I have installed are ~250MB and ~180MB (Chase and Capitol One), but I had no idea about either until I just checked. As far as satisfying me as a user is concerned, any effort spent optimizing for sto

Then by that framing, the test is asking you to decide what hue value is the "zero" between the positive/negative blue/green. Is the wording imperfect? Sure, but the intent was still entirely clear.

When I was a kid, roughly as long ago as the "before" in this study (late 90s), my dad would say the same thing to warn me against the dangers of "modern" (at the time) marijuana being so much stronger than what he smoke

But all of my services speak JSON, so if I can do a tiny bit more work to speak the same language, that's an advantage that JSON5 loses over JSON. I don't think JSON5 is enough more human-friendly to make up for that rather large

Considering pre-metric France didn't use the mile, and the meter was originally meant to be 1/10,000,000 of the distance from the north pole to the equator, it seems almost impossible that it's intentional.

The 5th circuit is responsible for a lot of garbage rulings, which doesn't fill me with confidence in the quality of their reasoning. If the 5th is the lone circuit ruling this way, I'm not holding out much hope that the SCOTUS wi

There isn't really any such thing as true "self-moderation", because there are always mods/admins who are more empowered to enforce judgements than the typical user. That system necessarily changes as those forums grow.

I'm not sure why you think you'd like the Pixel fold more than the Samsung Fold. Their dimensions are similar, but you've already said you dislike the software experience. I had the Nexus 5, Pixel 1, 3a, and now 7a, with a co

I've got ADHD and work hard to keep my tabs under control. As soon as they get too small to read (at least part of) the title, I lose the ability to keep track of what I've got open, so there's no value in keeping them open.

Most "smart" TVs work perfectly fine as a dumb panel if you just don't give them internet access. And because they're sold expecting to get a bit of money back on ads, it's generally cheaper than a truly dumb pane
