I really like Elite: Dangerous and commented about it elsewhere in this thread[0]. You can play it solo if you want and never have to worry about encountering other players. Combat is real-time and you even have to dock the ship yourself. L

Your skepticism is well-founded, but I'd like to put in a good word for Elite Dangerous. I bought it for $15 on sale long after the Kickstarter had ended and it constantly impresses me with its sense of scale and level of polish. Somet

As someone not particularly familiar with F#, could someone go into what the author means by "first-class types"? Do they mean that data types themselves can be treated as values (first-class citizens)?

One clever solution I've seen, if you can't fix it right away, is to tie a string from the spout and hang it down to the drain. The water runs along the string instead of falling and dripping.

I always assumed stores were blocking cell signal (or certainly not doing anything to improve it, like installing LTE repeaters), to prevent you from going on Amazon and finding cheaper alternatives.

My crypto professor made a point that stuck with me: There are many many problems that are, from an engineering standpoint, really cool and fun to solve, but can only really be used to harm or kill people. Building MIRVs or cluster bombs pr

I'm pretty impressed with how well the chairmen are grilling Mark. He's dodging a bit and they're not having any of it. I've never seen a hearing on this sort of thing before, but given the generational gap and the news

I think it's still a bit different. On Twitter, you still sort of fear retribution from the people within your bubble, since it's encouraged to "roast" and win arguments by getting more likes. I get the impression Mastod

The problem is now that turns into a cost-benefit problem. Can we make back the 5% that we're paying to get access to the phone book by selling that data? Chances are we can, so it's worth it.
