One thing I like is to set CapsLock to "switch to English". No need to think what language I'm at, just click it idempotently. Besides, CapsLock is the most useless key anyway.

Exactly. Why do we need to come up with clever formulas to estimate car CO2 production based on car's gross weight, wheelbase, engine displacement, efficiency ratings if it's much easier to calculate how much CO2 is produced from

To be fair, modern airliners, even budget ones, are way more comfortable than Concorde. You can visit one in a museum, it's very cramped, and noisier. Concorde had way better service tho.

Going to be downvoted, but I support the move to make Wikimedia (and other websites that distribute user-generated content) to verify identities of their users (editors). It is ok to be responsible for what you're posting. We are livin

I typically just add an <exclusion> for one of my top level dependency, so Maven picks from some other.

And interpreted. Some call transforming .java to .class a transpilation, but then a lot of what we call compilation should also be called transpilation. Well, Java can ALSO be AOT compiled to machine code, more popular nowadays (e.g. GraalV

I don't understand how Maven's YOLO is different from NPM's range. If you force a transitive dependency in Maven, then yes, some other library may get incompatible with it. But in NPM when people declare dependency as, say, ~

I don't think that works anymore, UN can only issue "deep concerns" (c). The real prevention starts when the collective body deploys troops (or authorize the deployment). The last such real deployment, authorized by UN, was f

In hotel industry they need to calculate and set a price for each room/night. Typically that's done by solving convex optimization (e.g. simplex method) and using "shadow values" from it as the price per room. Lo and beh

Disagree. I exercised some small amount of options long time ago (like 10+ years). Never called, never cared, also thought it's long gone. But recently got a nice check from them out of the blue when they got sold to a larger company.

I thought nowadays every driver wants to be in userspace for exactly speed, especially network ones. So there's no overhead at kernel/userspace later. Strange this article claims the other way, I definitely miss something.

Yep, exactly. My point is all that is about pointer arithmetic, even though most higher-level languages don't provide you with pointer arithmetic (and their arrays may have nonzero memory offsets anyway). Pascal, Julia, R, Lua use more

Yes, but that's only C. Languages that have no pointer arithmetic (JavaScript, Python, Java, Rust, Go you name it) got that from C even though they didn't have to.
