Pretend it's a real riot-starter you don't like and think about it. The internet changes nothing. It's not a free ticket to anonymity, any more than putting up posters in the middle of the night was. You run the risk of getting caught. Pri

If a subpoena can identify that there is reasonable belief that those messages, specifically, exist (as opposed to broad fishing expiditions) then none of them are safe. Private email can be subpoenad under the right conditions.

Got a citation for that last sentence? While I agree it's a valid counter to a subpoena, if you have evidence and a judge issues a subpoena ordering you to hand it over.. it's pretty clear cut if everything is done by the book. Why not go

Whether the case should be prosecuted or not - let's leave that alone. Chain of custody - fair point, but realize that's the case with every piece of evidence. It only becomes very important, as I understand it, once it is in the hands o

Google has a patent on pagerank? If their algorithm was patented, it would be open for anyone to read and understand - just not to use. My understanding is their ranking is something they keep a closely guarded secret, and to apply for a pa

They are using the legal system - an important part of modern business. I can assure you in economies with inefficient or nonexistent legal systems, things get much worse and doing business is next to impossible. Should apple not do this? T

Indeed. I mean, it may very well be true, and without time to analyze, if you are highly confident in nginx and the rest of your server setup (it's not some other user definiable limit) you might as well. That said - building websites to

You know it's odd. One one hand, the almost-greybeard in me wants people to stop screwing around with what I take to be standard unix concepts... what are the ephemeral ports, etc. On the other hand, when I take a close look at something li

A more accurate description would be that you used available credit at the right time to help create a profitable asset, and it ended up highly profitable with low risk. (I guess I just have an issue with the concept of "buying a house" an

I don't get how people rationalize calling it "owning" a house when they've only paid a few percent of it and they owe the bank the rest, plus interest. Legally they may "own" it, but the bank "owns" it too if they stop paying. From a prag

Just to clarify - when you refer to buying (or not buying) a property - do you mean actually buying it, or taking out a loan (mortgage) to "buy" the property. I've noticed, especially in north america, people tend to refer to "buying" a h

There are tons of reasons why Craigslist, as a business, may have taken this road, from a simple "less hassle for us" down the road to "we're building our own stuff" to. who knows. They're a private business - they can do what they want -
