Small gimmicky computers seem to attract so much attention and people who can’t help themselves but buy it, play with it for a while, then toss it into a drawer and never use it again.

Good long lived software is not a bunch of functions and components cobbled together. You need to see the big picture and visions of the future state in order to ensure what is being built will be able to grow and breathe into that. This re

It is useful. If you can whip up something complex fairly quickly with an AI agent, it’s likely because it’s already been done before. But if even the AI agent seems to struggle, you may be doing something unprecedented.

It took three days because... agents suck. But yes, with enough prodding they will eventually build you something that's been built before. Don't see why that's particularly impressive. It's in the training data.

A browser so unique and strange it is literally unlike anything we've ever seen to date, using entirely new UI patterns and paradigms.

Peak LLM will be when we can give some prompt and just get fully compiled binaries of programs to download, no code at all.

Bootcamp devs were always going to be doomed in the job market. They were a symptom of not having enough true classically trained computer science degree holding engineers to hire, so you compromised by looking for anyone that knew how to c

All the new “advances” in AI (LLMs) will mostly be from better context engineering. The core feature of an intelligent response for a given prompt will not improve much. The stuff you mention is unproven in usefulness or is so far away that

CRE - Code Reliability Engineering AI will not get much better than what we have today, and what we have today is not enough to totally transform software engineering. It is a little easier to be a software engineer now, but that’s it. You

I hate this. Basically it’s saying use constant clickbait to keep your reader reading. Increasingly, readers don’t have time for this shit. Be direct, and if the reader doesn’t care, they were never meant to be your reader anyway. Someone

Everyone always ends these articles with “I expect it will get better” What if it doesnt? What if LLMs just stay mostly the same level of usefulness they are now, but the costs continue to rise as subsidization wears off? Is it still worth

I think a good rule of thumb is, only have AI write some code when you know exactly what it should look like and are just too lazy to type it out, or, if it is code that you would have otherwise just pulled down from some open source librar
