Probably not, since I've never seen clean prostitution (or participated in any), I don't feel experienced enough to make a statement either way, I'll admit to that. Since it is not legal here, most of the people getting into it are either b

Yeah, it was an analogy that did not work and would lead off-topic here. Some people can willfully sell their body, while others have no choice (lack of education, drug addiction), it's those ones I am worried the most about.

Yeah, it was a stretch, your analogy is far better.

We really should, at least in the US, we generally make our kids choose an education path without having any experience, and before they even know what they want to do with their life. Many end up regretting their college decisions (and lef

This implies that 'not' being a teenager makes you a 'seasoned professional'. What makes you seasoned is experience, a 14 year old can be more experienced in programming than someone who is 50 and just starting out, and is likely able to ge

Law does not apply here and I didn't know we were discussing anything legal. Back to the context here, I am talking about the point of posting an app to HN. The goal is for feedback, if you want clear focused feedback, you need a focused po

How about we leave age/sex/race out of it all and accept them into the community as peers and equals? I'm all about encouragement, but if we treat them differently because of age, we are just sheltering them from the real world (the Interne

This industry sounds dirty by nature, you can't 'clean up' spammers or prostitution either. Just because a pimp won't sell his girl to just any old John, doesn't make the whole act any better. It's people in the middle trying to make money

You can stomp on the grey areas all you want on individual points, but you have to really look at the whole picture. What is the end result of the software they produce? Without marketing buzzwords thrown in to mask the true intentions? To

Not even 'usually', it doesn't exit your LAN at all, once it hits your router, it is stripped and your data is packed with a different MAC address on the WAN (or any other layer 2 identifier depending on your connection), same for each hop

Yawn. Physical access is a joke compared to what you can sniff out of an unencrypted call (all audio, SIP registrations, etc) if you can get in the middle of the network, regardless of manufacturer.

It sounds like you confused encoded with encrypted, encoded is no different than plain-text. The encoding is just to get a valid string for the URI (so a password can contain special URI characters) and is instantly reversible.

I hope everyone takes the above comment as hearsay, 'best friends' and all. Do you know how many friends say someone 'was a great pilot' after a pilot dies in a crash caused by their own actions and mistakes?

Yeah, the sign-in to unsubscribe junk is BS. Unsubscribe should be a simple direct link, nothing to fill out. I end up blocking domains instead of unsubscribing at that point.

I've got most of them blocked at this point (Ad/FlashBlock), if I actually do see them I put more mental energy into the actual blocking than consuming the content.

If you're shouting your password at your roommate loudly, and a neighbor overhears it, then how is that really snooping? Once the extremely loud signal leaves your property, I'm not sure you can be responsible for that data. It doesn't take

Credit reporting. My birthday and previous addresses are listed in them, and if someone else has the same address now (old apartment), their name may show up in relation to me. Your life is not as private as you think it is.

Exactly, this one link provoked me to try a few things myself and I learned a few new things without even expecting it today. I took this same app to other sounds (chainsaw, smoke detector) and it was all technically interesting. The modem

Why do they need a second app anyway? If they could just merge the working upload functionality into their existing app and let us use our own camera apps. I almost feel they intentionally broke photo uploads in their app in the past 6 mont

Ads or not, I just can't stomach reading long non-paginated articles on mobile. Safari mobile rarely keeps view-state when I come back. Without a decent scroll mechanism, it's a lot of finger flicking to try to remember where I was when rea
