Well, for some perspective tricks of the kind being discussed here were frequently published in magazines found in the local grocery store! Getting an extra sprite on a horizontal line, or putting more colors on the screen, various math tr

One aspect of the problem is we just don't teach Civics very well as a matter of primary education. It's a big mistake.

Seconded. Transformers are unobtainum at this point. And rewinding or making new ones is a lot of largely impractical work. Lol, cotton wire insulation. Old circuits are sometimes laughable to look at.

With few exceptions, what they want doesn't matter much. People hack, modify, whatever it takes to make it work. We basically keep instances of damn near anything. Which it were easier. It should be.

Not quite. It has a long wavelength. 11 meters, and that means it will propagate like "Short Wave" and HF (high frequency) commercial broadcasts tend to do. The line of sight signals happen at much higher frequencies. VHF and hi

Maybe. They may feel that way themselves. Edit: I feel that way about my Apple Platinum 8 bit computer. It was the machine I started on, and I learned a ton! Great little computer. And of course, it can be fixed! But, I flip that switc

Anything involving the mains can be a worry to them. However, it can also pass quickly! I have mentored a few of these people over the years. It is funny! I worry about burning up a chip, and they worry about getting zapped! We share expe

As compute power continues to improve, so does simulation. Yeah, I would expect modern software able to do the job for all but extreme cases. Basically, custom Amp mods.

I am grinning. What a great connection. Look up "Shango" on YT as an entry into a community of people able to fix vintage electronics. https://news.ycombinator.com/edit?id=36398778

Yeah, I was there. At the time, Apple was making a ton of money selling the bit, 6502 based computers. These machines were a completely open book, featured slots to plug anything you could imagine into (and people did, using those compute

Lucid comment. Yes, always approach moderator, admin, other similar role candidates first. Some of the ones asking are going to be great. The trouble lies with the rest, who should never have the role. Long ago, that was how I became a s

Yeah. Totally worth it. I would run it bog standard. Use the nozzle it ships with, or add a simple brass one and assemble it with care. Once you have it working, it will probably work a long time. I have a CR-10 machine mostly running PLA

I have used glass garolite pei and a number of other things. The garolite and the Pei are similar. I prefer the G10 because it's stiffer and it doesn't wear away as easily and it seems to be a little more consistent in how it beha
