I don't think I am being generous at all. That's a common speech pattern and often the intent is basically as I stated. Cato does, in fact, produce many bad arguments. Now they don't get it all wrong. They have produced goo

In context the user meant: >>It's a bad argument because it's a bad argument[, not because it came from Cato] They also imply the bad of the argument is obvious. I do not entirely agree and believe their comment would be im

I agree very strongly with this. Honesty with the kids and clear explanations and options are a big help. I did this once in the 90s with my first kids. I'm currently raising my granddaughter and it's a much different scene. So fa

Anyone interested in the pre-digital switching can spend some very satisfying time at the Connections Museum. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Gsx2ZsYggGw&t=956s&pp=ygUSY29u... The all mechanical switches are flat out

A clear attempt to make a tool safer just made it far less of a tool. I much prefer my AI tools follow the UNIX way. Powerful tools. You can damn near do magic, or create a horrible mess. Everyone makes the mess a time or two and then we g

I think both apps have very effective visual presentation. However, I also think changing these things breaks the one really good thing about Google maps and that is it works and looks roughly the same across all of its versions. Breaking t

Big Tech was told they can either see regulation they don't like, or get with the program and ignore corruption like old media has done for decades.

Regarding the copying of a being state, I'm not really sure that's ever even going to be possible. So for the sake of argument I'll just amend that and say we can't copy their state. Each being is unique and that's

Of course they are beings! They've got a few fantastic attributes, lots of different beings do. You know the little water bear things are tough as nails! You can freeze them for for a century wake them up and they'll crawl around

It is easy!! First and foremost: A being is a living thing with a will to survive, need for food, and a corporeal existence, in other words, is born, lives for a time, then dies. Secondly, beings are unique. Each one has a state that ends

If we bioengineer: Full stop. We've not done that yet. When we do, we can revisit the law / discussion. We can remedy "construct" this way: Your engineered human would be a being. Being a being is one primary differen

Boy, those easy answers are right there! Can't miss 'em. A guy could wonder why so many of us do not use those answers. Could it be the details complicate things just enough to take the easy answer off the table? Perhaps it is ju

Yes they are. Most people will. They are not the same because an LLM is a construct. It is not a living entity with agency, motive, and all the things the law was intended for. We will see new law as this tech develops. For an analogy, ma

Yes, I have slipped on the title before. Oops. Being highly self referential comes with some degree of parody, IMHO. I always took the tune that way.

People have to be told not to do that? Boggles the mind. I really don't accept leadership as the problem. Better would help, but at some point people need to own their behavior.

Ever listen to "Boing Boom Chuck?" It is respectable parody, also ironic in that it is also trope, not trope. Self referential too. Great tune!

I agree with this. Every so often, Apple puts out a machine I like. The Air I have is an M1 machine and it is crazy fast and battery frugal. Fusion 360 is now built for Apple silicon too! Makes the Air a great travel machine!
