If anyone’s reading from the UK, St Andrew’s University is known for the number of marriages it creates. It’s not surprising, given you’re spending 4-5 years in a tiny, predominantly student, town. Also, the university has an ‘academic fami

Not at all, IMO. I did a little bit of reasoning after reading this thread (I fucking love paternosters), and thought that any measure you could take to improve the safety or efficiency would likely have a detrimental effect. For example, i

Sadly, impractical in this case. The ski lifts work because there are (usually) only two (but occassionally 3) terminals. In contrast, the point of a paternoster is that every floor is a terminal.

I wish they weren't as dangerous. They really are a huge improvement on the conventional elevator in terms of efficiency. At Sheffield, many people are scared of the paternoster so choose the elevators opposite. I'd guess the pate

I've used cursor pagination on daemons doing large batch processing. It worked fine. If you're using a cursor, you should be iterating the entire (or at least most of) the result set over the course of the connection. I wouldn

Absolutely. I found similar advice to that in this book propelled my insomnia about 4 years ago. My insomnia responded to CBT-I extremely fast. After 18 months, 2 nights of sleep deprivation (4 hours in bed) and the corner was turned. Now,

If you're into most alt styles, /r/indieheads is pretty good too. I quite like going on rym and playing whatever's on the front page, that's exposed me to many genres I'd have skipped otherwise.

Vaccines are ways to mimic infection (hopefully) without the side effects of real infection, like getting sick. The immune system is complex and layered. The body's primary response to an infection is to make the body inhospitable. We
