Dear people making great products, Your products' minuscule flaws offend me, and render the entire product a failure. My complaints are more important than any decision or tradeoff you have made, and thus you are bad at your job. - Some Whi

There's a lot of useful guides for submitting to the App Store now too, with an official one hopefully coming soon: http://www.brontesaurus.com/2011/04/signing-xcode-4-projects... http://redwoodapp.posterous.com/macruby-and-xcode-4-build

It's called an iPod Touch, which costs $229 unsubsidized. Is there actually some magic market Apple is missing between the $99 iPhone 3GS and the bottom of the line Android handsets? Maybe, but they don't seem particularly enthused about ta

So, the article argues that since Flash now runs mildly acceptably, we need it to watch video again? I've been watching video on my phone for almost 4 years without Flash; why do I need it now?

Got a lot of comments on this. I'm not blown away by Apple's Notification Center, but I don't think this is the right solution at all. This approach fails to distinguish itself from the existing elements of the OS. It crams more information

Apple doesn't seem to fight jailbreakers at all. It seems that most jailbreaks rely on a security hole, and Apple has a responsibility to patch said hole. Back in iOS 2(?), for example, you could jailbreak your phone by visiting a webpage

Sorry if that came off harsh - edited for clarity. Whether or not someone is the best programmer in the world with a certain technology, we're all complete novices in more areas than we can count. I know nothing about SproutCore, so count m

Exactly. There's no reason to crap all over someone's toy project when they're clearly learning, playing and experimenting. The choices sure seem like someone learning the framework, and I bet there's a better way to teach.

Apple is pretty damn careful about not making press releases until they have a clear, concise and informative statement to make. Staffers were likely instructed not to address it because the official response was forthcoming. Yes, it's a sl

Achieving simplicity in design is more difficult than just throwing a ton of buttons, gradients and drop shadows at the problem. I'm an iOS user, and a huge fan of that model, but Microsoft is doing a good job of crafting an experience that

With multiple MacRuby apps shipping in the Mac App Store right now, and rumors of iOS support in the near future, it doesn't seem completely unlikely.

I don't want to bash our competitor, but I can talk about our goals. We want to craft a clean and simple Campfire experience for the desktop, and we think we're well on our way to creating a unique and easy-to-use application. It will fit e

I would. MacRuby adds to the experience once you already know what you're doing. As an introduction to Cocoa, it adds a lot of difficulty too.

It's definitely possible to start with MacRuby. It just requires a little more overhead to translate Cocoa documentation into methods that work with MacRuby (not to mention the occasional one that doesn't work right...). As a Rubyist, there

For iOS, MacRuby is unfortunately not an option, as it would require garbage collection. However, for writing OS X software, MacRuby works great (we just shipped an app with it in the App Store - http://briquetteapp.com - and it has defin

It all depends on your situation. Do you have ~1 year of salary for a new employee in the bank? You're probably doing alright then, and can definitely afford the risk. "1 year of salary" is, of course, just a suggestion, but you don't want

How is this the case? How many 3rd-party mice don't have a scrollwheel? (Especially gaming mice!) The other question is "What is the default behavior?". If I plug a mouse without a scrollwheel into my iMac, do scrollbars show up by default?
