And then on top of that, there's the discouragement from your peers. It wasn't a particularly good thing to be the "smart kid". There's a lot of peer pressure to be average, and the outliers don't gain any popu

I think there's a lot of overlap in the two audiences though. Someone who doesn't want a corporate job might say "I should start a startup." Maybe in their head they're thinking a one-man shop, but then they google

This is a great thing to consider, and I think this presumption of stupidity bleeds over into other areas of life too. Developers: inherited code is considered guilty until proven innocent. Or maybe more accurately, guilty until you've

This seems to be a trend lately (or maybe one I was unaware of before) - finding some sort of evolutionary reasoning to justify this or that. It's very pronounced in self-help literature, books about psychology, etc. But it seems to be

I've got a Dyson DC18 and it's been good as far as I can tell, but I haven't compared it with anything else. What did you replace it with? Is the replacement better? Did you try any side-by-side comparisons?

Maybe this is similar to my issue when I connect to my HDMI TV: If I plug in my audio output (1/8" cable) before connecting the HDMI, I'll briefly see a "NO" symbol with the audio (something like this: https:/

Fuel efficiency is another interesting stat that seems to not have improved much since the mid 90s. Tighter emissions standards are probably the reason, but it's funny to see new cars advertising "35mpg!" when 1995 VWs could

I'm continually dismayed by the lack of visibility in modern vehicles. It seems like every new model year increases size and weight while decreasing visibility. Take a look at cars from the 90s, and notice how much of their upper body
