As an XKCD comic, I thought this one was just ok, but what made me post it to HN was when I went to check the availability of companyname.website and found out it redirected to the comic :)

The theory sure is applicable, but employers don't pay for theory. If you got a CS degree in 1990 and stopped learning the day you graduated, you'd surely have a hard to finding a job in 2014. The CS field moves at an especially b

I'm getting the same thing. I wonder though, does that mean it's available in other countries, or is it just not available at all yet? Is that message essentially a 404?

One of the commenters on the article suggested sending the customer an "import template," with all of the column headers predefined. The customer simply needs to copy-paste their data into your CSV import template, and upload it.

Maybe invest in some noise-cancelling headphones, and use a white noise generator. I like SimplyNoise for that. It does a great job at drowning out background noises. And then if you can STILL hear them clearly, put in earplugs under the he

That sounds like an amazing feat from a productivity/finishing projects standpoint, but I'd be really interested to hear about the organization process for a thing like that. I'm sure one can't rely on memory alone to re

That's a good point -- things are constantly evolving and current tech becomes outdated so quickly. At the same time though, I think it supports my point that the training for these kinds of things should be faster than reading a big t

How do developers currently learn to build scalable, maintainable, well-architected systems? Certainly there are some books on the subject, and that might be a good start, but I'd be willing to bet that these skills are largely learned

I was in my local RadioShack (or is it "The Shack" now?) looking for a Hall effect sensor. They didn't have one, but they did have Arduino and Raspberry Pi kits along with some Arduino shields. Sadly though, the electronic pa

Are your devices Apple devices by any chance? We had a similar bug reported at work recently, and it turned out that Windows browsers will always show scrollbars but the ones running on OS X/iOS will hide them until you start scrolling

In regards to selling your data, apparently they've taken at least a bit of venture capital, so it's probably a realistic worry in the future... https://aralbalkan.com/notes/ello-goodbye/

You mentioned staying off caffeine, but recommended teas that both (usually) contain caffeine. Not trying to be a jerk, but genuinely curious - is the caffeine from tea better for the body than the caffeine from coffee? Or did you mean deca

This is really great. I always wished something like this existed when I was going through CS undergrad (and grad, for that matter). Have you tried reaching out to any CS professors to tell them about it? You might also spread the word by t
