I think it really depends on the industry. If someone had offered me an unpaid internship for coding at any point in my life I would have told them no because I am aware that I could easily earn money or I'd probably be better off contribut

You could call it cddddring if you like. The question is whether the labor of the person benefited the company in any way. If it did, then according to the Fair Labor Standards Act the person must receive compensation. http://www.dol.gov/e

The purpose of mentioning the Big-O in that document wasn't to inform about what it is. Rather, it was to note to the candidate not to go into technical detail during the interview (i.e. we like the intuitive version ).

My bad. Leave out that bit of information. Restating what I meant in point 2 is that there is a large applicant pool, and ideas are just one factor. Doesn't YC choose based mostly on the applicants themselves? The idea is hardly relevant. O

Here are three personal reasons: 1) It is good to be in an environment where others are hard at work because you'll be less likely to screw around. 2) It feels like you are doing something fun (you are "out") and at the same time working ha

I think there is a balance between code, marketing, and customer service: if no one knows about your product, you have no customers (marketing); if your product is buggy, you lose customers (code); unless you apply the third and fix bugs fo
