Water was just listed as one of the items we need to survive as opposed to something we want, we pretty much already have it in abundance in the first world. I'll admit I used to have the same view on this, where is the incentive? Why

Debt exists because of scarcity. Removal of currency/money and the concept of personal profit can be used to create abundance of our needed resources (food, water and shelter). This isn't magically caused by the removal of currenc

Hence the slow process, this is the problem with currency and money in general, by design it can store debt indefinitely allowing profits which is incentive to create scarcity.

Only if you retain the concept of having to buy things. Removing currency would be a very slow process but once you get past the behaviour and economic issues presented I think this lines up with hacker values quite nicely. Everyone would h

The only thing I really miss when not using AWS is security groups, iptables isn't hard to use but its nice to have this as a simple external service.

The same principles apply, just like everyone suddenly becomes an expert on politics just before elections. I'm from the UK so you could say its worse for me as I'm definitely allowed to be spied on by the NSA. What are you sugges

Many projects with similar aims already exist, meshnet ( https://projectmeshnet.org/ ) comes to mind. People becoming inspired to change the world after recent events need to be directed to established projects where their (p

I currently have a 27" IPS (FSM-270YG / 2560x1440) and a 21" LCD (1600x900). I mainly do web development so the 27" will very comfortably fit sublime, terminal and chrome with dev tools. The 21" is my spotify/g

I downloaded a couple small files with wget and got 10MB/s, so just point it at a large file, maybe even loop the command.

First thought, isn't this a tad dangerous for the supplier? There seems to be nothing stopping me from using huge amounts of bandwidth just to screw with them. Or if I really was a bad guy, how much of an effective dos attack could be

About this direct access phrase, I read a post earlier today (linked from a comment on HN but can't find it now...) that described a hypothetical system offered by facebook to intelligence agencies, this system would allow the user to

It is tedious to layout a PDF but actual pain points are handling variable sized images and amounts of text, try formatting recipes to a PDF... Your demo video explains the features but not how it can solve anything that is a major problem

Raspberry pi has an arm6 chip I think and the minimum for ubuntu is arm7. It could be done but the OS would require considerable modification.

A little of topic but... Having read the comments here and many blog posts on HN on this subject it seems that many recent graduates are not up to scratch with what the industry expects. Yet a degree is required to obtain a H1-B visa or 12

One tip from experience, make disclosing your age part of follow up info when someone is interested. I started freelancing when I was 15, I found that when told upfront, potential clients would bail very quickly. When I tried not disclosing

I feel the same kind of apathy is strong in the UK, at this point I think our situation is worse than the US but nobody seems to care. Even to the point there is social stigma attached to bringing the subject up with most people, but then m
