There is also a context window problem where you can only pass in 4k tokens (including the prompt). This is not that large of a window for providing history and information of the entire workflow. How were you trying to solve that? Also, if

The only thing that matters is shipping (the right thing) when you’re a startup, not environmental costs or saving on an office lease. My opinion is you’ll ship faster due to better/stronger team culture and better communication if you

I guess you can say that, I'm early in my startup journey, but do you think Sam Altman doesn't understand startups or have a pulse on what's happening there, because that is quite the claim?

All the big tech are heading this way. I don’t have stats on small companies, but I would bet on the in office startups any day over the remote ones in 99% of the cases. https://twitter.com/sama/status/159083245743

Remote is only going to be the new normal for a few companies in the end based on these trends. Mostly in office is on the way back and it’s no longer a seller’s market so companies have more power to make these demands. Especially for smal

Heard the same thing happening during some long post-hurricane power outages in the USVI where my family lives. Generator stolen from the main cell tower for a chunk of the island, very selfish and expected now.

They can and will give some stock refreshers (to those that aren't laid off or marked low performing) but I doubt they will make up for the large drops that happened this year, and the drops that are likely to keep happening over the n

Yes, it is. Bands at Amazon (where the comp was lower compartively) were raised to at least compete with the other FAANGs, but that was before the layoffs/freeze situation when they thought they still had to do that. Comp is majority s

I can almost promise TC will go down on average over at least the next year unless there is a miraculous recovery in the tech sector (as it did signficantly this year already, as I was one of the FAANG folks who saw my pay get cut a huge am

Well the FAANG pay is heading in the other direction right now, so the oppurtunity cost math is shifting. I have a feeling it's not just temporary, average pay next year will be lower in FAANGs since there will be less job demand, stoc

Excitement about what you’re doing brings excitement to others too and many great ideas come from people tinkering with side projects and the like. We shouldn’t stop anyone from going into tech on anything but competency but yes, given the

I have never seen a job like that where someone doesn’t code a bunch themselves and they are still a useful member of the team in the long term. I’ve hired a lot of engineers of various seniorities and also never hired anyone in the role yo

That’s a manager then, not a software engineer/developer role if your whole job is directing others and not doing any coding yourself, and I’d posit that if you are doing that for too long, you probably shouldn’t be tweaking anyone els

Neat feature but yeah very small doesn’t seem like < 12 to me either (worked at big tech for a while). A two pizza team (standard amazon size) is 8-10, 12 starts to be on the larger size for a single team, but not abnormal. Very small to

That’s not subjective. That is a manager. If someone reports to you and you are responsible for them, you’re their manager, regardless of job title. Subjective is if he’s counting program/product managers, account managers, etc.

Doesn’t tend to work at big tech as they have rigid very slow moving (and ill informed) HR processes that only react after they see a bunch of people leaving.

The confusing thing happening over the last 1-2 years (and in previous cycles) is that many current employees are also down significantly on their stock grants in public big tech. Employers seem to see this as ok, and that’s the risk they t
