When I read journalism without knowing the subject well, I assume what I read is accurate. But I'm always shocked by the inaccuracy of reporting on stories I know/understand well. I wonder whether this book is less accurate than

Batteries included or not, I can always find battery replacements in Python and that's what I love about it. I agree that the breadth of high-quality python libraries is great... but in a language that believes "There should be

Getting free users is not the hardest thing in the world. Out of curiosity: have you done it, or are you just speculating that it isn't difficult?

I think that a good deal of that fear/anxiety comes from the fact that people are expected to be more productive. If someone doesn't respond to an email immediately, we think the are not working or are being lazy. A quick but po

I found a weird trend: If I looked at the before first, and then scanned back and forth, I preferred before. If I looked at the after first, before scanning back and forth, I preferred the after. Not sure if this is a known cognitive quirk,

I'd love to understood how the Hadoop hype and marketing team generated so much unwarranted interest in Hadoop. I'm witnessing a feeding frenzy for Hadoop talent in situations where there's absolutely no need for Hadoop, and

Perhaps HN commenters should have regular 9 to 5 jobs. Are you suggesting that most HN readers have easy jobs financed by government largesse? That strikes me as an absurd suggestion.

The circle jerk application had overtones that were sexual, not misogynistic. The presentation may have been inappropriate for this venue, but it's shallow-minded to pretend sexual and sexist are the same thing.

You are interpreting the word "value" very narrowly. For instance, one could hold a value of relying on evidence rather than preconceived notions.

Doing stuff efficiently is great when there's some benefit from efficiency. But I've seen a lot of fragile code (and implementation specific hacks) created based on benchmarks, when the time savings were meaningless in practice.

As someone occasionally involved in hiring, the important question isn't whether we have "enough" software engineers. It's easy to fill seats. The question is whether we have "good enough" software engineers.
