I was #4 at the time my current employer contacted me. I've continued in the competition with a small team of their employees, and we are currently #2. I don't know how sensitive the number of job contacts is to your ranking. My hunch is

Whether or not you have these skills: potential employers need to SEE them. There are lots of pretenders out there, and employers are appropriately wary. Are you showing employers results on your web page that a worse ML practitioner can't

I agree that Kaggle is awesome... though I've also been wondering how Kaggle gets so much attention and TopCoder seems to get so much less (and TunedIt.org appears totally inactive). Mainly, I want to know because I suspect there is a good

Inability to communicate is not required in the classical prisoners dilemma. It's inability to credibly commit. The distinction is illustrated with the common application of the prisoner's dilemma to cartels. Cartel members can tell each

I think many people would think that's a good set of benchmarks. Personally, numerical computing is more important to me. So the 7 benchmarks listed at julialang.org seem great to me.

I just flipped through the docs, and this looks amazing. It would be nice to see some benchmarks. If Numba lives up to expectations, Travis Oliphant should be knighted.

I've seen so many news articles full of hyperbole about HFT, and this is the first legitimate explanation I've seen. Thank you.

Signing up for facebook and telling people what you are doing prevents you from keeping this info private. But writing letters does the same thing, and I don't see people complaining about pen and paper. It's a shame that FB privacy setting

I don't think I understood what you are saying. But, would you suggest that by using (and enjoying) fb, I am oppressing people who don't want to use it?

The "Business Week" story about brogrammers which sparked a lot of the recent conversation talks about brogrammers programming with one hand while doing pushups with the other. That's just laughable.

There will be a few surprises in any system... But Yahoo ahead of Facebook, Amazon and Apple? Myspace ahead of Apple? Paul Graham is #943 among people? Cool project, even with the eyebrow-raising results.

I hadn't heard of dotCloud before. From their web page, it looks like they might really simplify AWS deployment. Can any current users comment on how it compares to going through Amazon? The pricing page doesn't indicate how much storage

I thought this was an interesting post... but let's say for the sake of argument that it doesn't have a "decent point." Do you think Jeff Atwood is less likely to have a decent point if Apple is paying him for his writing?

The story wasn't just "not 100% factual," it was substantively misleading. For example: A huge part of the story was about 12 and 13 year old kids that Daisy met at the factory gates. He says he saw lots of them, and he suggests that this

The pundits also panned the iPhone 4S for the first couple days when it came out. And then, after it'd been out for about three days, they changed their tune and started raving about how great it was.

Interoperability between clojure and python is promising, because it lets you do lisp programming with python libraries and data structures. If you want to do lisp programming with CL libraries, you could just use CL. I'm not sure what the

Using (and even researching) new AWS services has always been surprisingly frustrating to me. You have to sift through buzzword-filled ad copy and corporate-speak to find any explanation of what the product is or how to use it.

I wish they used some sort of evidence to support the claim. Even if the evidence was: "here's how I know I got more done on days without to-do lists," that would be more convincing than "to-do lists don't work, because I say they don't."
