I assume they mean “flight engineer” , the 3rd flight deck crew member on planes that require 3 person crew. Although those are rare these days.

> Often the wait for your output was long and excruciating. I solved that problem by getting a 10 hour per week job at a remote batch submittal station. It was in a quiet corner of campus, so I mostly had a card reader and line printer

Hmmm... I would have thought the WWV 10 MHz signal would be pretty good in Ontario much of the time. It's only 10KW AM, but still, from Colorado to Ontario 10 MHz is a pretty usable frequency. WWVH, now that would be hit-or-miss. Wha

The key part here is that they observe it being selective to cancer cells. That could be huge. But I imagine this on the bench, not a animal trial, so not much exploration of side effects yet

It does have context -- it's on Steve Blank's blog. Now, if you have never heard of Blank, I suppose it is context-free in that sense. But I was expecting an essay riffing on the idea of "profound beliefs", and I got e

Just a note, it may not apply in your situation but for anyone else reading the thread that may not be aware -- there is now an injection for at least some forms of Macular Degeration. My brother has been getting these injections and it ha

Same, but for me it is any story about agriculture or food production. I don’t even open those comment threads any more, it isn’t worth the aggravation.

For me, the Star Trek movie with the giant, desert, canyon in the middle of Iowa was a real “WTF?” I can’t believe that only Iowans were bothered by that. If you have ever driven across Iowa, I am certain your view of corn fields was wholly

A section 1983 suit seems reasonable, but I don’t think that happens much outside of voting rights, and outside of the feds bringing the case. But I am no expert.

Ah yes, pop count. Back in my days as a CPU logic designer on refrigerated, walk-in, scientific mainframes, I was working on a vector processor that was intended to be a competitor to Cray-1, but sank due to poor marketing and a collapse i

My take away from this a lesson about validation strategy. First, I will point out that exhaustive testing for 2^64 * 2^64 operand pairs is impractical, for scale recall that there are around 2^75 (I maybe off a bit here) atoms in the univ

Certainly true for K6KPH on amateur radio frequencies. I wonder if the same is true for commercial circuits on KPH and KFS? Your comment on licensing got me wondering... I wonder what license the operators for KPH and KFS have these days?

What is your back end? Do you want to create 3D art for games? I think Rhino owns that space. Want to 3D print with parametric dimensions? A lot of CAD packages can give you a file that you can feed to your favorite slicer. Have a CNC milli
