Not necessarily. Opioids, like other euphoriants, are somewhat "stimulating" (mentally) in small doses. I know they aren't just "trying to get high". The problem is that in order to get any psychotropic effects fr

You are describing domains, and neither the article nor its title suggested the discovery of a new domain. There's no technical reason I'm aware of for "branch" to be restriced to describing domains of life. This case ap

The article clearly states that there were 16,651 overdose deaths "involving" opioids. It does not say anything about cause of death or exclusion of other drugs.

Side note: acetaminophen is a much bigger threat than most opioid analgesics themselves. It's directly involved in something like 10% of all overdoses in the US. There's no practical reason for opioids like hydrocodone to be mixed

One of my professors (in medical school) pointed out that these posters are great for learning the chemistry, but aren't very useful to us students because they don't show you what cells/tissues these processes are happening

A bit of a tangent, but it's really a shame that triclosan use is still so ubiquitous in the United States. It does way more harm than good. Only one state (Minnesota) has actually taken a stance toward limiting its public use, which w

I wonder why Perl was excluded. A quick search reveals that /r/perl has more subscribers than lua, matlab, objectivec, scala, sql, and visualbasic.

Mass spec isn't terribly useful on a mixture with a large number of unknown chemicals (like wine). The resulting spectrum would likely have overlapping peaks all over the place and wouldn't really tell you much about the compositi

Wine tasting itself isn't necessarily a futile activity. The "junk science" part is when self-described "experts" assign arbitrary percentile scores based on the tasting.

Unfortunately fluorosis can be a bit more serious than just some marks on your teeth. In severe cases of skeletal fluorosis, patients can experience pain/damage to the bones and joints. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki

Excessive black tea consumption can also cause fluorosis. It's quite difficult to say just how much tea one would have to drink to cause any symptoms though. Bottom line, moderation is usually a good idea.
