This is not a pyroclastic flow and doesn’t look even remotely similar. The problem is that you’re comparing a very close up image of some lava falling on a camera to videos taken from tens of miles away from Mt St Helens. The scale and natu

On the contrary, it’s very surprising. There’s no way that 38% of people are disabled by any definition of the word. 10× differences between the disability rate between schools simply should not exist.

You've missed the point. How does Stanford end up with 38% of their students claiming to have a disability while other schools only have 3%? Are the other schools illegally discrimating against these students, so that their only altern

It would be way cheaper to replace the airplane with a modern twin-engine plane than to retrofit new engines onto an old plane.

Haber invented the process for artificially creating ammonia. Since ammonia is a critical fertilizer, this invention has fed billions of people. On the other hand, it’s also critical for the manufacture of explosives. His work on chemical w

Is the author surprised by that, or did you just misread it? The only relevant quote on that page that I see is “It is impressive to see Quake run at full speed knowing that Windows 95 runs DOS executable in a virtual machine.” He is perhap

They would not have had to resign if they could point to any attempt that they had made to fix the many problems detailed in the report.

I think you’re ignoring the problem. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on the matter, the BBC’s strategy of supporting one viewpoint and burying another is unethical. If you want people to trust the media then the media must report the facts e

Excusing the BBC for lying just because other people are lying too doesn’t really work.

I’ll give them +10 points for hiring somebody to measure their own accuracy, and −100 points for ignoring their reports and broadcasting deliberate lies anyway.

You still believe that lie? The riot had already started before he gave his speech. How then could the speech have instigated the riot? The people who were rioting never even heard it. In fact, most of the people there planned in advance to

Making the traffic controller load a flight plan into the plane’s computer merely changes who will make the mistake. If you want to suggest changes, suggest something that actually has a chance of reducing the rate of errors. Besides, pilot

Keep in mind that the person talking and listening to the radio is not the pilot flying the airplane. Pilot and Copilot alternate which job they are doing. It's not the same as the driver of a car talking on a phone.

If a machine doesn’t function correctly or well, then fixing it requires blaming some part of the system that can change for the better. The dishwasher cannot change; it’s just a machine. It could be replaced, but that might be expensive. M

I didn’t say that the machine was well designed. I said exactly the opposite! The very fact that it is not well designed means that you cannot rely on your intuition when operating the machine. If you do not have some idea of how the machin

This is an aphorism, not a truth. But it’s true that dish washing machines are often badly designed, especially when there are multiple opaque options that can be turned on and off. Consider the example presented in this very video, where t

Sure, but most people don’t have a modern dishwasher. It’s an appliance that lasts 20 to 30 years ergo most people have old dishwashers that were manufactured decades ago.

It’s also extremely rare here, when looked at rationally. Those kinds of shootings are limited to specific areas of the country. The other 99% of the country faces nothing like that, ever.
