I used a PDP-11/70 with ASR-33 TTYs as late as 1978. They were still common because while slow and noisy they were much cheaper than the DECwriter, and could also read and punch paper tape. Since mass storage was very expensive (10MB f

My Android phone started crashing mysteriously under load. I was so fed up after a while I switched to iPhone. I now assume that the degraded battery without throttling was responsible for the crashes.

You can often find freshly rendered lard in Mexican markets especially if they sell carnitas. Ask for manteca. You can also render chicken fat and skin. Pork lard is more versatile, but chicken fat is a delicious substitute for vegetable o

These are the sort of hazards that autopilot seems to handle well, the problems have been more about ambiguous lane markings and missing large stationary objects.

Airbags are not a simple system that just reacts to impacts. They have to categorize the impact and the occupants of the vehicle and decide which if any airbags to deploy and at what time. Getting this wrong absolutely has killed people. Fo

I'm on my second Spark EV and when it came time to go all electric replacing my Honda Fit I looked hard at the Bolt because I like small hatchbacks. Now every time I pass one in my Model 3 I'm glad not to have made that mistake. T

This restricts your choices in the US to cars sold before 1998 when air bags became mandatory. Air bags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control are all controlled by complex computer systems and absolutely could kill you. Electronic fuel i

I did not purchase the GM connectivity because it didn't provide any value, the features were lame or useless and it was no loss not having them after the trial period ended. The Tesla connectivity is really part of the whole car exper

It is now a hindrance as every other EV maker (except soon GM) gets the subsidy to compete against Tesla which no longer does.

Tesla regen is far more powerful and useful than engine braking no matter how much downshifting one does. With the new "Hold" mode it is possible to drive a Model 3 for days without ever touching the brake pedal. It is also possib

My P3d is also from July 18 and is the lowest VIN of any that I know about, less than 55500, any chance yours is lower? On topic, I've had a few trim issues fixed at the SC which was no cost and not much bother. Otherwise it's ama

Tesla’s have this as part of the selectable “Hold Mode” since an update a few weeks ago. Let off the pedal completely and it slows rapidly to a complete and very smooth stop. It’s surprisingly easy to get used to and one can drive for days
