I actually have a vague memory of the first time I realized that the couple of characters that were appearing before me on the screen were meant to represent a smiley face turned sideways. It was some time in the mid 90s in Boulder, CO. B

This level of pretense is really mind boggling to me. It underscores how certain regimes/people fear objective reality more than anything. And it's a very inconvenient position to take since objective reality is everywhere.

I couldn't say without confirming, but the Solidity ABI memory format is very standard. At the time Fe was founded, there were no plans to use anything else. I don't believe that has changed.

Sure. I guess I won't name names, but it happened something like ten years ago. It was for a pretty large online stock trading platform. It was a previous era of my career when I was a full stack web dev. The interview question inv

Very neat article. Since I got into and out of Haskell a while back, one of the complaints I always had about breaking into the space was that it was too abstract. Some of the core concepts of FP seemed really arbitrary when described wit

Yep. Also related and relevant is how the brain works with regard to encoding falsehood; essentially, there's no delete button. Once a statement of possible fact has been discovered, it takes more energy and reinforcement for the brain

I remember when compact discs came out, in a way it felt like a downgrade from cassette tapes. Tapes were smaller, more durable, cheaper, record-able (CDs fixed this later but it took a while), and didn't skip when you played them whi

It may just be incidental or irrelevant, but I find the video of the steak cutting to be incredibly unconvincing. It looked like they just pushed apart a piece of well cooked meat like you could do with a spoon and slow cooked pork.
